Hello everyone, my name is Vegard and I'm a programmer.

I am pretty new to game development, and I only got into "real" programming about a year and a half ago. Before that it was only simple php scripting and web stuff.

I've only worked with Java so far, and it has really grown on me. It's the language my school has landed on, so it wasn't much of a choise really. I'm finishing my bachelor's degree in computer science in the spring of 2013, and I'm hoping for a job where I can create something cool with what I've learned.

You all have to forgive me if my english is a bit off, I'm norwegian after all.

So far I've only made some basic stuff, like snake and tetris clones, but I'm working with my brother (who I've recently introduced to programming (he's really more of an artist)) on a bigger project. We're trying to make a kind of framework for a game creator thingy - yeah that came out right. Anyhow, it's called Personal Adventure, and the idea is that people can make their own adventure games, with stories, characters etc. In the end though, it might just be more of a learning experience than a real contribution to the community. I might post some screen shots in the developer forum for you all to see, if you'd like.

I've read some of the posts in the developer section, and it's clear that there is some real talent around. Maybe some day I could join some of you guys on a project. I would love to see how more experienced programmers work.

My early experiences with games was back in the time of MS-DOS and 386 computers. I remember playing games like Ally Cat, Sokoban, Commander Keen, Ducktales, One Must Fall and many others. I would like to make games in that old style, where gameplay trumps graphics, but at the same time I'm very impressed with what people can do in 3d. It's just that I know nothing about it, so I feel I can't appreciate the work in the same way. Maybe that sounds stupid, I don't know.

Anyway, it's great to be a member here. I'm looking forward to sharing my projects with you all and of course to get to see what everyone else is coming up with.

Thanks.
