Since the previous, FRAPS-captured video was pretty effing terrible, I looked around and found a different video capture program, the results of which you can see here. Which program? Do you recommend it?

I agree definitely, however VALVe still seems to think this could be a way to grow your fanbase. I would take any third party comments as less than a grain of salt.
If you read the article, that was not so much a third party comment as a summary of a first party (guy-who-works-at-Valve) comment. The article also had a related comment as a direct quote from a Valve employee: “I think this applies not just to people on Greenlight, but selling games on Steam in general. [Success comes from] using channels outside of Steam. We have a big audience, sure, but Steam is not going to be a golden ticket necessarily. You also have to work on marketing and getting buzz out there. Getting people excited about your product. There’s a lot of people on Steam, but they’re not there every day looking at the front page.”

What do you mean by "dead"? There are a bunch of blogs that I think still get traffic, like the original host of Brandon's games coverage -- boingboing. In terms of what a gaming blog can be, Rock Paper Shotgun is probably my favorite. The PA Report also has an interesting style and is comparable in that it's also essentially a one man show. The "integrated community experience" you're talking about kind of sounds like Destructoid to me.

this is ridiculous. anyone who takes 6 hours to beat the game isn't actually playing the game for all that time, and probably has it on pause half the time. 2 hours is standard, 3 hours is if you're bad at the game. i died over 800 times but i still did it in just under 3 hours. does dying 800 times sound like mad skillz to you?
Hmm, I could see VVVVVV possibly taking 6 hours if they tried to collect all the trinkets and got really stuck doing stuff like the "doing stuff the hard way" trinket? Likewise there's completionist stuff in Braid that takes forever I've heard. (That said, this is not that relevant to the value of McPixel, and really just a reason that 'game length' is a weird and not all that meaningful metric, especially when self-reported without any indication of what they were doing all that time -- e.g. were they exploring new stuff or just repeatedly doing the same thing for hours.)

And then put that into perspective with the Steam sales. Where just last week you could get Deus Ex HR for 5.99 I think. Thats the problem I have with excessive sales, but thats another matter.
I'm sure McPixel will have steam sales too; you could just wait and pick it up then if you want.

Yeah but the post is addressing a certain group of people ("bro army"). Also people are mentioning someone called pewdiepie who probably talked shit about mcpixel, causing his legions of followers to talk shit on the greenlight page.
Er, pretty sure pewdiepie is a person who does popular lets plays on youtube, who was positive about the game and helped it get greenlit. Hence "pewdiepie made this popular," etc. I don't think the pewdiepie fans are the ones who are angry about it getting greenlit.

The thing is I've seen a handful of games that I personally am not interested in but I feel others would like. These are good games but they are just not for me.
Then you should click "no thanks / not interested" in response to "Would you buy this game if it were available in Steam?", right? I want a skip button too, but more for borderline cases where I want more info before I can say if I'd be interested or not.

I think it's a bit broader than indie game trivia; it's "video game culture" in general, with a slant towards indie games.
I like a bunch of the recent posts. There is some dissonance between what it actually is, vs. the expectations created by a $100k kickstarter, and a tagline like "setting a new course for videogame culture" when it's more like "a niche blog linking to cute videogame trivia." But I'm not terribly bothered by that.
Agree with allen that the comments aren't generally worth reading. (They're not bad, just mostly variants of "I like this.") I think the subscription barrier does reduce the chance that people who have interesting things to say will actually say them.

Hmm, alright, thanks. That seems deliberately obscure then; it'd be clearer if they just said "you're ranked 172/200" in that case -- and not really giving away much more info to do so. But maybe they like the lack of clarity for some reason?

Weird ... what does 28% of the way to the top 100 mean? Do they mean you have 28% of the votes that game #100 has? Does that % tend to go up or down or stay constant?
