Hey everyone, the tutorial says game maker is only for windows, but I think yoyo now made one for mac as well so I decided to download it and try, but I'm having some trouble, not sure if my code went wrong or it's the problem of the difference in versions.

But here's my code for moving:

if(keyboard_check(vk_left)){

   x-=2;
   }
if(keyboard_check(vk_right)){
   x+=2;
   }

In the GML editor, the code is also by default set to "Applies to: Self"
but when I compile and run, the object does not move when I press left or right keys, if anyone can see what's the problem there, please provide me some help, I would much appreciate it, thanks!

augh, same here >_< I've just started a while back, everything was going fine until now we're trying to do sprite animation with sprite sheets, tutorials are hard to find, and "translating" between objective-C and C++ is such a pain :/

Nice to meet another computer science student :D *shakes hand*

Hi everybody!

My name is Antony and I'm a 21 year old Computer Science student at Nottingham Trent University (UK). I also work for an Indie Studio called NerfGames doing some programming but at the moment focussing on PR and Marketing.  NerfGames was founded so we would be able to work on our own games during our placement years and we've now reached the point were we actually have games ready to get out in the world!

Back to me though, I've been an avid gamer for most of my life, it started out with Sonic on the Mega Drive then moving onto the PS1, the addiction was then fed by a father who worked at Sony as a QA lead tester, meaning I regularly got a load of new games to eat up my time!  If that wasn't enough, my step-father then gave me his NES and SNES wherein I found the joy and rage inducing Starwing, it was also about this time that I figured out I have anger issues:

I received a N64 on my 7th Birthday along with my favourite game of all time, Lylat Wars:

Thankfully I've been able to put up a mental wall between the cherished memories of completing that game twice a day and the horrible "Do a barrel roll" meme.
I've played and enjoyed games across almost all platforms and genres as I've grown up ranging from the likes of Total Annihilation on PC to Call of Duty 4 on the PS3.

I also enjoy watching (not so much playing anymore) Rugby, consuming fairly large amounts of Alcohol.  Oh and I really love long sunlight walks on the beach.

Cheers for reading!

Hi everyone, my name is Olive currently studying computer science trying to be a programmer Tongue
I'm probably pretty new to gaming in comparison to many of you here, I didn't became a gamer until I was 14 or 15, but getting into the game development industry has been one of my biggest dreams since the day I've chosen comp sci as my major ^^

me and some other friends in university made a small game written in pure java from scratch, we don't even know how to play the game  ourselves lol, but the process of making a game is really fun so I hope I can learn more through this forum and get better at making games. I'm also working on a 2D side scrolling platformer for IOS and trying to learn to use cocos2d and box2d

besides being a programmer I'm also a musician-wannabe, I took piano lessons but didn't had much training on music theory, but I did the music for our first game and I hope to do more in the future

Favourite games: Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dynasty warriors, Tekken, Plants vs. Zombies
I don't play FPS because they somehow make me dizzy... i don't know why <_<
