I got into the beta. I don't mind violating the NDA because the game is massively mediocre, as expected from Fatshark. It is essentially Mount & Blade Warband's MP mode, but with looser controls and experience-based unlocks for equipment. Just... just play warband. It has cool mods and is a better, cheaper game.

So, I picked up Cursed Mountain over at Gamersgate, since they're having a sale and I like Survival Horror games (even bad ones, often -- a bad survival horror game is almost always hilarious to play) and I'd never really even heard of it before. Apparently it's a Wii exclusive that got an exclusive port to Gamersgate, so you know it has to be straight up quality. And it's not scary, at all... but it's actually pretty good. Good atmosphere, story is at least interesting (for example, apparently Buddhism isn't about reincarnation but about fighting demon ghosts and witches with magic mind lasers fired from an ice pick), and I think Tibet and the Himalayas make for a pretty good setting for the kind of moody scenery that horror games need.
i bought this for the wii when it came out. it's an ok game and i enjoyed the setting but i don't think they made the most of it. feels kinda hamstrung by budget constraints and by its lead platform. p.s. the devs are from austria It might not be the best, sure, but... the last Survival Horror game I played was AFRAID OF MONSTERS, which was so spectacularly bad I couldn't even finish the thing. Apparently I missed grabbing the pistol, which made the rest of the game impossible. I kind of like the protagonist who accepts laser ice picks without question but is confused when he kills a ghost. Like, whoa now it was ok before but this is just too wacky.

DAY FOUR Dawn broke upon a silent, joyless building. Most of the rooms were now empty, but Geeze was not going to let this stop him from accommodating what few guests still remained. With no maid, he thought drily, it would be hard to cope with more anyway – and then chastised himself for the thought. SirNiko had done his job as best as he could, even if he did listen at doors (and sometimes that was a useful trait, to be sure). Lost in thought, he almost didn’t notice that the next room he stepped into was covered in the signs of a desperate struggle… Wade McGillis was dead, taken in the night. Now, Wade McGillis had been a mysterious man, but yesterday he had claimed to know something about the case – at the very least, how to defeat the werewolves. An inscrutable man, to be sure, and one of few words – and now the menace’s latest victim. A damned shame. The discovery broke what little hope of safety he had held. How many innocents could there be left? Even if only one werewolf remained, things were… almost over, for better or worse. Carefully locking the door behind him, he went to the toolshed to grab some supplies. Let the others get their own breakfast for once – he had to put some more locks on his bedroom door. Turns out my computer isn't beefy enough for the game, so I had to give it up. Alas!
Might track down a used copy for console though; it's great.

I will say: I played part of Unepic, and... the game itself is fine -- good, even. The tiresome nerd reference bullshit just turned me off too much to finish it. It's constant, because the idea of the game is to be a parody of gamers. If you can take it, though, there's a solid enough game underneath.

Sorry about the slowness of the game so far. It's... been long and drawn out! But, at last, we come to the End of the third day It had been a traumatic day for all of the guests, to be sure. Perhaps it was the tension that made the day seem to drag on, and on; no one could be sure that they would not be the one chosen in the end. Suspicion was rife, and perhaps rightly so, for the group knew without a shadow of a doubt that they faced a supernatural menace – and any one of them might be a werewolf! And still the snow fell over the beleaguered inn, trapping them together with the monster. They had killed one of the beasts, but at what cost? Three of them killed, and the Inspector as well, and still no sign of when the menace would cease. The group huddled shakily around the wireless, hoping for the news that the snow would stop and they could save themselves – or at least, avoid the terrible justice which each night must bring with it. The Doctor had brought his kit, with which to start examining the unlucky accused as soon as he could. With trepidation, the votes were counted and the name read out – Ashkin was to face justice for the crimes of these last long nights. Fission Mailed, acquitted by sheer chance, shuddered with relief and collapsed bodily onto a divan. “I… I suppose I can’t defend myself,” cried Ashkin,” but I’ve told you all the truth! SirNiko was an innocent man – and now, thanks to you, I go to join him. But you won’t find me letting you off the hook as Nix did – you’ll have to do it yourself.” Inanimate backed away, muttering excuses. Noone, it seemed, was willing to follow through… then a shot rang out from the back of the room, and Ashkin collapsed on the floor. The group turned to see Abraham, with a smoking gun held in her arthritic hand. “I was *cough* *gasp* the one who spoke against the man, and it’s only right *wheeze* that I do the deed. I guess there was still some use to the Colonel’s old revolver. He was guilty as sin, and let no man say otherwise.” He fell silent. END OF THE THIRD DAY Players leftInanimate Geeze Tanner Abraham YG Fraxcell (mauled)Ashkin (lynched)SirNiko (mauled)Wade McGillis Nix (lynched)Fission Mailed poe (lynched)Since we're running low on people, and therefore actions at night, the night will last exactly 48 hours. So discuss in PMs if you want, but make sure you make your actions before that time or a random choice will be assigned as per usual.

I backed it and never got my copy of GUN GODZ, nor did I get a website. So in essence they stole my money. Fun times!
I have never backed anything on Kickstarter since.
