Developer / Technical / Re: GM v.s MMF2 v.s Construct

Anyway, to which point has Construct Classic evolved? Into an excellent, powerful, flexible, fast game creation tool that's by far my favorite one I've ever tried. There's a few quirks left, but honestly, practically all game creation tools have quirks you have to learn about and work around, GM and MMF included. do you think it is better than GM8.1 today?
I think it is, but keep in mind I've only used GM for about an hour before I decided it wasn't what I was looking for, so if you want a better comparison you'll have to ask someone else who's used both more thoroughly. I recommend giving it a try, after all, construct classic is free!

Construct Classic (the new name for the open source version, which is now developed by the community) has vastly improved in the past 2 years, it's much more stable than it was.
Also there's the in-progress rewritten from scratch construct 2, which while it's not ready for prime time yet is getting close to being ready to make simple HTML5 games.

Well, I thought you might not be a troll, merely aggressive in your demeanor. Guess I was wrong.

Well, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but I disagree. I find the event system to be plenty fast, especially once you're used to it, as well as intuitive, and I also find the interface makes plenty of sense.
The best method of coding a game is very much a matter of opinion, though. Game maker's not my cup of tea, yet there a plenty of people who like it. To each their own, right? I understand you feel strongly about the issue but calling people noobs really doesn't help anyone or the tone of the conversation.

You actually can 'type out' a lot of code with construct. After clicking new action, you start typing the object name and it filters down the list of objects. When there's only one object containing what you typed (or you can press tab then use the arrow keys to navigate the list), you can press enter to go to the next screen, where you can begin typing the name of the command, which filters it down the same way, then press enter again, enter the expression (again with the keyboard), tab through the various fields if there are multiple ones, then press tab twice (highlights the finish button - gets around a construct quirk that pressing enter in the expression editor doesn't close it) and hit enter to finish.
Either way, I find after getting used to where actions are on the list, it's faster to select them with the mouse than it would be to type it, and it's typo free (well, aside from the expressions, but at least that checks the syntax). It might just be a matter of opinion, though.
Danny34 - construct by default uses vsync, which fixes the screen tearing problem. Not sure about MMF.

I read the construct forum yesterday and the dev suggested you buy a £200 for a 2 years commercial use subscription which after that you don't own the program and have to pay again if you want to use it after. Incorrect. First, it said £40 for games earning revenue below 20k, £150 for revenue 20k and up, and a free version with a nag screen. Second, this is discussion to get people's opinion. Nothing has been decided. Third, it is intended that you own the program, but stop receiving updates. Ashley wrote later in the thread: "You can continue using it after your license expires, it's yours and you bought it and it won't nag you." It's probably not a good idea to discuss it yet because they're going to present an updated business model in a few days that addresses people's concerns and confusion.

Sadly, I've heard from many developers that on PC they don't sell, tho XBL or something else with a standard game controller is a different story, as soldner x was apparently profitable enough to warrant making a sequel. I have heard that they're popular on PC in Japan though (hearsay, I don't know for sure), so there might be a market for them there.

Wanted to second how important the choice of school is. I learned more in two weeks at animation mentor than I had learned in two years at the previous college I went to. Trouble is, it's hard to tell what it'll be like before enrolling to the college.

I would go so far as saying that whenever people fanboy construct and hate on gamemaker, MMF2 or whatever 2D editor in the process here telling them how bad things are in comparison and trying to convert them to construct users it only reflects badly on scirra. I don't think it's hate as much as frustration. I also think there's some misunderstanding going on in this thread, especially of what's meant by limitations. I don't think people are arguing against what can be accomplished using MMF as much as expressing frustration that some of how MMF is designed makes some tasks sometimes significantly more difficult. I think even MMF users can agree that MMF has room for improvement (the built-in platform movement, for example). That isn't saying MMF sucks - it's simply stating that it could be better. This thread has nothing to do with the standard MMF2 or TGF2 versions anyway it is to let people know about the newgrounds version which is free and exports as flash game which as said already construct does not do.
Construct has nothing to do with the original topic, construct fanboys just made this thread off-topic and now seem to think it's a VS thread. Construct is a good program but this type of thing is the reason i only ever look at the addons and examples areas and nothing else when i visit the construct forum.
Other program bashing is actually a rare occurrence there, the forums are actually quite friendly. Disclaimer, I am a moderator there. While we all have our opinions and preferences I hope that users of each software can coexist peacefully even when discussing their differences.
