Just a quick note, it seems that you forgot to remove the debug files and symbols (*.vshost, *.vshost.exe.manifest, .*pdb) from the release. Did you remember to compile it as "Release" and not "Debug"? Compiling it as a Release will also optimize the binary files.

Lesson of the Day: Remember not to put anything hot (especially a cup of coffee) on an optical disc.

Aw hell yeah, love the soundtrack.

Fun Fact: 'I Nert' was stuck in my head for a couple of days after I played the game.

Well, I did say the following:

Quote
Visual C++ Express is also fine, but for a beginner I would recommend Code::Blocks, as Visual C++ makes a lot of auto-generated Win32/MFC/CLI/WhateverTheFuck crap that doesn't add anything but confusion for beginners and doesn't have anything to do with Standard C/C++.

Of course you can make a vanilla C++ project and use it in MSVC. But for a beginner that's just not really worth messing with. It was a recommendation, not anything mandatory.

Learning C is pretty awesome if you want to know how computers work, so you should go for it. I recommended C++ primarily because it's just an object-oriented extension of C, where as C is procedurally, and object-orientation is especially good for making modern games with. But on the basic level, they're the same.

Additionally, I'm learning C instead of C++ because I like a challenge. I'll probably move onto C++ later, but for now I want to work with something more fundamental, because that presents more of a challenge to me.
C++ is harder. There is a lot more to fuck up and go wrong in C++ then in C.

huh? Such as what?
373  Developer / Technical / Fight Thread Pollution - Technical Edition on: July 21, 2013, 06:46:20 PM
Okay, I'll start out by saying that I browse the Technical forum a lot. And I know that there's a couple of good, big threads where anyone can discuss programming and other technical tidbits (Such as the happy and grumpy old programmer room), but I have been having an idea in my head for a couple of months now that I will try out now.

I think there's a lot of people who'd like to ask all kinds of things technical-related to other people on this forum, or people who just want a good ol' talk about anything technical. But sometimes, these questions and posts don't really deserve a whole new thread, and they do not necessarily fit into the happy/grumpy programmer room, as a question or post doesn't necessarily mean that you have to express any kind of emotions.

So I was thinking of making a thread, kind of like Generals 'Fight Thread Pollution', but for technical discussion and questions that doesn't deserve an entirely new thread, but at the same time doesn't require you to be happy or grumpy. Just plain old discussion and questions.

I PM'd our moderator, ThemsAllTook, and he had just greenlit my idea, so ladies and gentlemen, I present to you:

Fight Thread Pollution - Technical Edition

So I'll try out this experiment and see how it goes.
And please, keep this thread sane and drama-free. Remember that this isn't General.

If you have an idea for a better name for this thread, feel free to post it. Smiley

FOR MODERATORS: Feel free to do whatever you want with this, you're the boss.

So I'll start this with a simple and short question that isn't worth making it's own thread for:

Is there anyone here who works with ASP.NET? If so, is there any specific tutorials you'd recommend?

I personally like PHP, but the reason I'd want to learn ASP.NET is for future jobs, as there are so many places in Denmark that looks for ASP.NET programmers, so learning it might give me a good job after my education.

This song always plays in my head when I read almost any indie game news. It usually summarises it perfectly:

it's all about the money, it's all about the dum dum du-du-dum dum

Heh, yeah. It's pretty dum that many new indie developers are just making games to emulate the success of Minecraft. They're not even really a part of the indie community (which explains the huge amount of people who only post two or three post about their game and nothing more; the last pages of the Introduce Yourself thread is a good example).

Of course success is a good thing, but I personally think that the awesome community and people in the game development world is the best reason to be a part of it, and not because of the $$$.

prepare yourself for beiber and tyler the creator  being considered formative artists when you're old

Sounds like a nightmare.
379  Player / General / Re: What are you listening to at the moment? on: July 21, 2013, 11:29:51 AM
It's all about the dum

John Coltrane- Spiritual

i got the complete village vanguard box for christmas in 2011 and am still trying to come to grips with it. this shit is monumental. can't believe critics trashed these concerts at the time and accused coltrane and eric dolphy of ruining jazz forever. critics are dum

This is lovely. Critics are seriously bashing this?
