I don't feel sorry for the suits. I feel sorry for the many devs that busted their asses off for 8 years trying to bring this game together. And having Enemy Unknown's expansion take away the limelight is just rubbing salt in the wound.

i like how they announc expansion to this after the bureau :xcom fedora unknown gets stinky reviews
Yeah, I can't help but feel somewhat sorry for 2K Marin. All the shit they had to go through to get their X-COM to market, and then an expansion for the other X-COM completely steals their thunder.

No, you see, it's actually really, really good.
That is of course an entirely objective assessment based on an employment of a multitude of methods to measure the de facto goodness of the game.

Seriously though did they ever patch the famously broken "spawn every single enemy from the mission on the same square as your soldier" bug? Nope. And that bug is actually the result of them trying to fix the original teleporting aliens bug. lol strategy Huh?

Hotline Miami isn't My Little Pony. It's a violent and ugly game taking place in a violent and ugly world. If you're a rape victim that's traumatized to the point of reacting to trigger words and depictions of rape in fictional media, I'm not sure what you're doing playing the game in the first place. It's not like it's all rainbows and lollipops, then *bam* there's a rape scene out of the blue.
However, as to whether or not the rape scene is "artistically justified" in the game, I can't say for sure. But I agree with those that feel rape has almost become a trope and lazy go-to method for showing that a bad dude is really bad, or somebody has gone off the deep end. One of the major problems is that it focuses on the assailant more than the victim. It's used to show how fucked up the antagonist is or the protagonist has become. How it affects the victim and her life is normally not touched upon at all. The victim is just a prop for some characterization of another character. Everything I've read about Hotline Miami 2 (including the quotes from Dragonmaw in this very same thread) seems to indicate that this is exactly the case here as well.

There was a thread about this before. There was also a kickstarter campaign before. And it's also obviously a scam.

It looks really damn great, and I'd get it in a heartbeat if I could play it on my Xbox. My PC is just way too old and crappy to play something like this.

It mostly happens on my netbook, but if I have multiple programs/windows running, I also get the slowdown on my laptop from time to time. Maybe it's my anti-virus that blocks the page from loading fully as it scans the GIFs or something. In any case, an embedded YouTube video would definitely be preferable. EDIT: Also bear in mind that it'll load quicker if you've already visited the thread before due to caching. But your computer might just be better than mine.

I don't think Paul was being sarcastic. And, yeah, that review is pretty good. The whole "they wanted to be YouTube, but ended up being Dailymotion instead" is kind of a great comparison.

I think the show is well researched and thought over, but I feel that she fails to realize (especially in the indie scene) that the Damsel in Distress trope is something quick and easy to give players the initial motivation to go save the world. It's mostly quick and easy for the developer, though. Just copy what's been done a hundred times already without giving it much thought or trying to come up with a more original (and interesting) motivation.
