Love the art direction for NOCT - white on black fits the original gifs rather well...

That's awesome! Do you have a link handy to your game? I need to see this!

Here's the Molecule Match Devlog, and this is a sample of the 666 score

Yeah, namewise it's OK for a codename, but definitely detracts from the quality of your gifs!

Iniquitous - grossly unfair and morally wrong. ?

Oh, I really like that! It kinda rolls off the tongue. Definitely a fancy Latin word for "Wicked and evil stuff"

Awesome! I have a bunch of words like that in my game, they appear on-screen if you ever score 666 points (which I noticed happens reasonably frequently) Smiley
343  Developer / Business / Re: Did you quit your job to go indie? on: August 13, 2014, 11:47:32 PM
Yup, I'm quitting tomorrow, and moving in two weeks.  Then the fun of being a full time indie starts!  I am pretty excited by it.

Any advice?  I'm going off of my savings right now.

Stock up on Ramen.

Probably not the best decision of my life, but yes I just did 2 months ago.

Why do you say that?

We have been working on our game for 6 years now as a hobby and finally taken the step to work half-time. Right now I am really happy with this decission. I earn some money to live and can put a lot of effort into the game.
But this solution depends on your boss, I suppose.

Yeah, half-time is really tempting me at the moment; I get very stressed in my job (business operating system development) and making games keeps me interested in programming - how do you find balancing two programming Jobs?

...If it's free, I don't think more people will flock to it. They just *might* fire it up once and then discard it because there's another game waiting.

If paying for an item, you just devote a bit more attention to it to prove your money's worth....

Ahh, the old Sunk Cost Fallacy - you just can't beat it.

TBH, even just looking at the activity on this thread a free game would get you a decent number of players! If you're going down that road maybe you could open-source it ala Spelunky.

Nice concept, liking the art, but I couldn't get past Lvl3 so limited feedback

Similar to others, but I'll post regardless:

* On the World selection screen I wanted to click anywhere not the (1) in the corner

* On the World selection screen it would be useful to see all the levels always, instead of just on-hover, classic Mystery Meat Navigation, looks nice, but doesn't work too good

* Instead of having the creatures appearing from the right, I think they could jump up from the bottom into the middle, this would be a welcome variation

* I want to be able to click "play next level" instead of going back to the menu each time

* I couldn't get past level 3 - if I clicked an extra time more hammers would drop instead of recharging?? I think a good mechanic might be to click above the line to drop a hammer, and below the line to reload

Lovely theme, I can imagine this getting very tense if anyone muds-up like Arnie in Predator...

349  Feedback / Playtesting / Re: VeryDoge on: August 13, 2014, 05:32:45 AM
I rather like it! I guess the Doge meme isn't for everyone, but I thought the language playful and quitable.

Tested it with my Browser (new Macbook Air) and it runs very smoothly.

Found the keyboard controls a bit irksome as I have to tap two buttons instead of one (ie: UP+LEFT, BOTTOM+RIGHT, BOTTOM+LEFT, UP+RIGHT)

If you like the history of game controllers, the evolution of video game controllers family tree is fun to look at

One of my mates has that a the backing on his glass coffee table, I love it!

I hope there's a retro mode where you can play as the original marshmallow chap

Decided to work on the Map a little, this is what happens when you get a Gold Medal and unlock a secret path:

Edit: Slight tweaks, but not worth a new post
353  Feedback / Playtesting / Re: Jake - Android & Windows Phone game on: August 11, 2014, 02:24:53 AM
I tried the Android version and was confused by how far Jake would jump... It looks as though you can tap the "2" or "3" icons on the sides to jump that distance. I reckon:

  • Only have the jump distance on one side
  • Think about removing the arrows from the jump icons
  • Maybe color code the whole row somehow? IE: the clouds themselves or just a stripe running from the number in the background

The youtube video with the tutorial is pretty good, but I'm assuming that's on the windows version only?

I wrote an article a while back about First-Time-User-Experiences that you might find useful:

Found a rather nice series of photos documenting various controllers throughout gaming history, thought it worth a share...

357  Player / General / Re: What are you reading? on: August 07, 2014, 11:53:15 PM

76 Fallacies by Michael LaBossiere - pretty good so far, he details common fallacies in arguments and statements, this sort of stuff is super-useful in the information age; so much noise!

Wobbly buttons, because my UI was still just clickable boxes...

Out of curiosity do you have analytics installed? Loving the thought of you watching the stats pouring in...
