I think agility comes as a temporary solution to DS2's endless stun locking until they figure something else out.

what do you guys want out of dark souls 2? what can be improved?

More rapiers, more crows, more lore, more challenge. New features like scaling armor, vitality only increasing your equip load, and agility making all animations faster don't worry me. I trust that FS will balance everything fine and leave room for interesting builds.

I'd like to see them build around what we've made of the first game. More room for adjustment to allow players to create endless play styles. The way items compliment each other and how your stats make the game feel entirely different. People are still chopping away at the first game finding more and more interesting things everyday. I'm eager to see how much more there will be to experiment with in DS2.

Hands down, Dark Souls has my favorite lore. Not just the substance alone, but how it's portrayed and so open for interpretation. It's poetic.

Fwiw I don't think Carmack has built or designed a working rocket.

Quote
Armadillo Aerospace is an aerospace startup company based in Mesquite, Texas. Its initial goal was to build a manned suborbital spacecraft capable of space tourism, and had also stated long-term ambitions of orbital spaceflight. The company was founded by John Carmack.

I think I just need to keep working it and maybe I'll finally make a game or two.
games aren't rocket science, and if you're not writing engine trope code they're barely even computer science.

I ran over an animal and didnt have the guts to check if it was okay or not. Ijust heard when the tires hit with something and it started screaming then steered the car and heard how something was possible crushed. I feel like total shit.  Sad

That's bogus, I can relate to you not wanting to check it. We assume the worst in those situations. Hopefully it was a cardboard box or something....

We are all procrastinating by posting in a thread about anti-procrastination.

Jamming to Dance Gavin Dance. Pretty pumped because I just ordered this limited edition vinyl box set. It's sort of a huge deal because these guys never press their stuff on vinyl. Limited to 1000, if you are a DGD fan I'd go snatch one quick.

I sometimes feel like I'm not supposed to make games, that I'd be better off focusing on what I'm actually good at. I don't want to be left out of the picture when it comes to such a profound medium though. It's been ten years and I still haven't published something of my own, it's a terrible yet inspiring feeling to see other people's game grow.

When I feel like this, I'll watch the preview for this Newgrounds documentary (still hasn't come out). The part where Edmund says "If these kids fucking keep working it, they could jump off of what were doing and blow right past us."

That line is what started the fire years ago, the thought that I'm one of those kids, that I could make games like Edmund. I like to think of what my 16 or 17 year-old-self would say to me. He would be furious that I still haven't even made a flash game, but excited to hear that I talk to Tom Fulp often. He'd be infuriated that I never elaborated the lore of my game, and that people still think Vexons are birds or plague doctors, but pleased to know that I finally opened an art exhibition.

Sometimes it's good to reflect on what progress we have made rather than ponder on what we've failed to do. Sometimes I feel like I'd be better off doing comics or playing drums, but I think I just need to keep working it and maybe I'll finally make a game or two.

The most effective way to beat procrastination is to take whatever it is your'e working on, and make your life depend on it. Fuck having a day job, fuck going to school for grants, sell all of your shit for software and a decent computer, and try getting it all back using your new tools. I like to think that procrastination is merely an extension of comfort, the illusion of leisure. If you work your ass off just to upgrade your living condition, your'e core qualities will never grow. Art suddenly becomes more important than facebook when the quality of your work is the only thing between you and a warm meal.

You really need to ask yourself where you want to be, why your'e even working in the first place, and look forward to it. Work just so you can work more, don't make money to buy a nicer house, make money so you can afford more tools and work even harder.

I was at my peak when I was homeless. This ties into the discussion regarding whether or not you can make games on a laptop. I was interning for a game company out of a studio I set up in the back of my Mazda using a ten year old scanner and an even older Dell laptop. Your tool set grows with your patience, meeting the bare minimum when it comes to equipment can sometimes enhance your raw skill.

Ever wonder why I still use MS Paint?

My +14 Gargoyle Halberd bashes ass. It's basically a Black Knight Halberd that weighs way less and is enchant-able. I'm considering doing an upgrade to lightning or fire (probably lightning because everything is weak to it).

Also, where the fuck can I find a titanite slab?

I like how there are toxic enemies in the painted world. It's not like blightown was enough, no fuck you, more fire and poison.
375  Player / Games / Re: Dark Souls and Dark Souls II on: October 15, 2013, 12:19:16 PM

you invade lautrec using the black eye orb in the hall where o&s fog gate is located.

i made the queelag's furysword which should help me out taking out ornstein since he is weak to fire.

How was I supposed to know this
I'm very good at finding secrets while simultaneously missing incredibly obvious things, apparently

Checking the wiki made me realize I missed a few important and obvious things down in Blighttown/Chaos etc. But I'm trying to check it as little as possible because every time I do something is blatantly spoiled.

Also: I can't make anything because I'm stuck there and the giant blacksmith can't refine any of my weapons past 5.

I know I can beat O+S, it's just a matter of getting it right. Also, isn't he resistant to fire, being a Dragonslayer?

Regular Blacksmith isn't that far away, you can go back to Sen's Fortress and take the cage elevator to the bottom.

Yes, exactly.

Interestingly, I've started disliking shields once I got rid of them. There are some enemies that are totally annoying to handle or need to be parried in small areas (silver knights, black knights, serpent soldiers) but I greatly enjoy the perceived freedom. I think I'll tape my next attempt with a few more rules no shield at all and maybe no repair, too.

Silver Knights and Serpent Soldiers are really annoying, they die easily but dish out a lot of damage while they're still alive. I like having the grass crest shield on my back at all times just for that little recovery boost.

My current set up:
Great Scythe +10
Uchigatana +10
Grass Crest
Elite Knight Helm
Dingy Robe
Havel's Gauntlets
Black Iron Leggings

The combination of black iron, dingy robe, and havel sports a surprising amount of resistance to all the elements as well as a sturdy phys resistance. The elite knight helm is mainly for aesthetic and to rep my homeboy Oscar (rip). I also sit right below 50% equip load so I have decent mobility if needed.

I really like the idea of combining the Dingy set with Lautrec's just to be dumb but from what I know Lautrec's armor is complete shit.

lautrec is dead now directly on to ornstein and smough. Concerned

I had trouble killing both by myself. Like, I spent a few hours trying to do it and just found it near impossible. Which is odd, because I did fine all by myself when the game first came out.

Take someone with you, pick Sol up on the way there if you want some jolly cooperation. Don't be afraid to leave to the depths to grind for humanity if you run out, they aren't as far away as you'd think. I sat there for hours trying to get summoned for humanity and every single time the idiot that summoned me would engage the giant guards by the fog wall so we would both be going into the battle with half health and a few flasks used up. Like REALLY? Isn't it common knowledge to avoid as many enemies as possible on the way to a boss during co-op?

Accidentally equipped the ring of favor and protection because I'm an idiot. I have it and havel's ring on at the moment, but kinda want to put my wolf ring back on. My poise is 54 with my current armor, do I really need the extra poise?
378  Player / Games / Re: Dark Souls and Dark Souls II on: October 14, 2013, 08:27:45 AM
The fact that Orn can dash through Smough's hit box is bullshit imo. It basically comes down to you having no idea what's going on behind Smough's fat ass, running up to land an attack, and being interrupted via gab to the face with a lightning spear.

I mean, there's a difference between a challenge and having to deal with a fucked up line of sight. :<

Just started playing DS again last night. I did my first play through when the game had just come out and didn't have internet so I didn't bother creating a build for my character. I also looked at it like monster hunter and assumed all I needed to do was upgrade my weapons and armor a whole bunch.

Now that I'm playing again and actually have internet, I thought I'd actually try and make builds for my characters. I was hoping a few of you wouldn't mind helping me out.

This play through is mainly just to take a closer look at the game's lore and have to have fun, not really looking to do pvp. I'd like to balance the build between strength and dexterity that way I'd have a lot of weapons to play around with. I might want to learn support spells just to play co-op and tank for people.

SL: 34
Vit:18
Att:8
End:18
Str:18
Dex:19
Res:17 (don't ask, I didn't know it was useless)
Int:9
Faith:9

I'm using an upgraded Uchigatana to clear smaller enemies and an upgraded Zweihander for larger things.

Any advice would be appreciated and yes, I know I'm a neanderthal for treating DS like Monster Hunter.
