Hello TIG community! Smiley

my name is Jack and I would like to present you a SP/MP/Coop game that a friend and myself are developing which is called Running with Rifles. I would describe the game as a mix of Cannon Fodder and the Battlefield series. The game is a part of the alphafunding project on Desura and is also applying for a release on Steam through Steam Greenlight. The game is 90% done and fully playable.

What is RUNNING WITH RIFLES?

“Keep your head down SOLDIER – you’ll need it!”

Pick up your rifle and join the Green or Grey army in their mission to send the enemy home in a box! RWR is an open world, top-down, tactical shooter for single player and multiplayer online, that puts you right in the middle of chaos in towns, trenches and forests turned into ruthless battlefields, controlling just one soldier in an army of several hundreds.

In a war where men die like flies and endless streams of reinforcements run to fill the void, it takes tactics and marksmanship to capture territories effectively. The open world nature of the game enables you to use a multitude of approaches to help the front line move – it’s up to you to shape your role. Experience the complete arc starting as a private hardening into a high ranking officer with a squad under command, arming yourself with a variety of weapons and vehicles on your way to glory!

Key features, so far:

  • 24/7 servers in Europe and USA supporting 40+ players
  • Linux port
  • 8x 1 km^2 maps with total of 45 bases
  • hundreds of simultaneous AI soldiers
  • open world: it’s up to you how you play, the war goes on without you
  • not your usual "I'm the hero"-shooter: one bullet kills more often than not
  • use cover, crouch and prone, move with others to increase your odds to stay alive
  • day/night cycle which affects the vision and behaviour of the AI.
  • emergent AI that tries hard: they too use cover and rooftops, attempt outflanking
  • automatically AI number compensation depending on how many humans are playing
  • gain experience to get promotions to lead your own squad, unlock abilities
  • variety of modern weapons (G36, AK47, MP5SD, Mossberg 500, FAMAS-G1, M16A4, M24A2, PKM, M240, Neostead 2000, P90, AKS-74, Stoner LMG, SPAS-12, QCW-05, F2000, Dragunov SVD)
  • grenades, Flashbangs, bazookas and mortar strikes
  • support items system like riot shields, medi-kits, etc.
  • vehicles: jeeps, boats, communication trucks and armored trucks which can be used as mobile spawn point, APC’s, tanks, TOWs...
  • paratrooper calls
  • vehicle driving and navigation AI either autonomously or after they receive a special order
  • stats tracking and achievment system

Features in the development backlog:

  • Mac port
  • pure coop/singleplayer campaign with RPG elements (loot, mini-boss, etc). The backbone is already there.
  • new outfits
  • new weapons
  • new maps
  • new vehicles (humwee with mounted MG, Patrol ships...)
  • new grenade types (smoke grenade, gaz-grenade...)
  • several new radio calls (helicopter reinforcement, artillery strikes, supply drops, field scan, etc.)
  • optimize online implementation to support even more players
  • engineer features: constructible/destructible walls, tank traps, anti-tank mines...
  • even more modding possibilities

Hello ladies & gentlemen,

my name is Jack and I am indie game dev even if I have a completely different education/working background. I joined the creator of the gaming project "Running with Rifles" 1 1/2 years back to try to push the game so it can reach his full potential. I have become a fan of video gaming since my first Gameboy, back in 1989. Nowadays I don't have much time to play myself anymore but there are still some interesting indie games around that I'd like to try out, on the AAA-titles side, there's not much that catches my attention.

Have a nice day,
Jack
