Mods that level my level characters up - or down - extended the life of NWN for me.
Replaying shouldn't require starting from 1 again. A variety of this mixed with procedural generation for an RPG or pretend-RPG like Diablo would hold my interest.

1. I don't think this can be easily pigeonholed into "conservative", "left wing", or "communist". Especially since those mean different things to different cultures - even in Canada/US which basically have almost the same culture, "left wing" and "conservative" mean very different things. My political beliefs draw a little from everything, I think.
2. I feel threat from opposing politics when activists desire to interfere with others' lives or support the will of the many, or the powerful, to tread over the rights of the few or the weak.
3. No 4. What does race have to do with anything? What color am I, behind this screen? 5. I'm not American 6. I don't want to be American. I don't even want to visit.

But to be honest, after the first few weeks, you should not need a reference manual for the components/syntax of the language itself (cin/cout/for/if/while/else etc). As Theophilus said, if you need one, you're probably not going to be hired. I disagree with this. I've been playing with multiple languages for 20 years. But there is no way I could spit out some functional ASM or Fortran code right now without a refresher.

I do the opposite - I start to play games that seem similar to ones I'm making. Theoretically, to help me "stay in the mood". Realistically, I "OMGWTF damnit I can't do that" and discouraged.
/ Just started "King Arthur: The Roleplaying Wargame" along these lines // Not discouraged yet. /// Oh ya, should do my VS compo entry...

That font is making me twitch. It seems so inappropriate. Nonetheless, I'll come back and give this a proper look, using this post to bookmark for when I'm at home.

EDIT: Which brings up an interesting point of a trend I've been noticing on TIGS lately. The overwhelming arrogance of people stating their opinions as if they mattered. Sure, it might be a little bit different if someone I know and respect were to tell me that they don't approve of something I said or did, but even in that case it's extremely arrogant to assume that their opinion should matter to me... You're absolutely right, phubans. While I can't speak for all tiggers, I, for one, long for the day where I can be held so highly in your esteem that I should be able to feel free in expressing my opinion. -- Seriously, is there another way to interpret this? You're advocating everyone else practice self-censorship because it's "arrogant to assume that [their] opinion should matter to you"? EDIT: practicing self-censorship

Well, we're all gonna get something different out of it, to be sure. And my first reaction was a lot like yours, J Whiting, until [more spoilery] I realized that we were just taking turns to gather the stars. The sequence where the partner meteor parks in front of you and relies on you to guide him to get stars was more evocative of trust than any of the countless 'protect me' missions in various other games that I've given tedious sighs over. [/no more spoilery] I agree though, the ending was weaker than it could've been.

http://www.the-end-of-us.com/If you guys haven't checked this out yet, I really suggest you do. It won't take much of your time, it's like a 5min browser game. I thought it was actually really sweet, and it emotionally affected me a couple ways. SPOILERY: I felt like I was letting my buddy down when I couldn't get as many stars as he did.

in a perfect world we wouldn't need publishers
That may work for you in your perfect world. In my perfect world, I'm actually pretty comfortable with the idea of paying someone else to market and do the actual selling of my game. There's only so much you can do, you know?

Elven Legacy(on Steam) is turns-limited. I believe the maximum turns for any map is 15. You get increasing rewards for doing it under the time limit via Bronze/Silver/Gold measurements.

- have subtitles for all dialogue, whether cutscene or in game - be pausable at any time, including cutscenes - have any cutscenes be skippable, with a journal entry for what happened in it - in long games, provide a tiny snippet that gives you an idea "where you are" on your load game screen (think Chronotrigger - probably the only reason I finished that game) - give the lions share of the profits to the developer, not the publisher

I really liked the 3D character model & current gear for your selected character at the top left. (Yes, it's an anthropomorphic elephant priest.) The developers made a point of coming up with an entire ecosystem for this game. It was a visual feast, at the time.

Because well-done lo-fi or retro art looks better than mediocre high-res or current-time art.
