My folks bought that on a shareware disk, way back in the day! It's ever tied in my mind with a similar game that was medieval, I can't remember the name though.

One of them Persona games.

For the most part it was fun! I forgot the rules to snooker.

The game seemed to run a little slow on my machine.  Firefox issues.

Is there anyway to put english on the ball?

You should have a way of detecting if the window loses focus, I can't adjust the power of the next shot after typing this. Gentleman

There seems to be too many steps to how much power I put on the ball.

Alll in all, pretty good so far!

Lots of stuff happens constantly. People die gruesome deaths.

The people also go insane and beat each other up from time to time (though when they start doing that, you should probably abort your game). They're also generally incompetent fucks and complete morons, possibly due to alcohol problems

Can you still exploit it by killing your opponent and then killing yourself to reset the round instead of having to progress back to the center?

The timing makes this a tricky proposition, if you time it wrong, the other player often respawns and you might be gifting them an advance.

Nidhogg is one of the few games multi player games where a mix of skill and outsmarting your opponent are absolutely vital. It reminds me of the multi player in Pandora Tomorrow, in that sense.

I'm going to back Dragonmaw up on that one, Nidhogg brings the crowds, I haven't seen people as jazzed about watching other people play a game in a long time.

The issue is, if the moderators don't have influential powers, then it's pointless for them to reprimand people.
410  Player / Games / Re: INDIELEAKS on: January 08, 2011, 06:56:18 AM
btw, if tigsource's mods were in favor of strict moderation for disrespect you'd be banned for this post. keep that in mind.

I like that you just assume what the moderation standards and rules would be, as well as the severity and swiftness of the punshments. In my experience, well outlined rules of conduct allow for a more succinct conversations. Noone is calling for out right banning of individuals for using naughty words.

ALSO, I meant no disrespect, sorry if I'm a little terse, I don't like long posts. Gentleman

I don't think anyone advocated a strict 'you need to be polite' policy, that was a smear propagated by the "shouldn't ban anyone ever" crowd to discredit the people in the other camp.

This forum kinda only has two rules, one is don't be a shit head under threat of banning, which seems toothless.
412  Player / Games / Re: INDIELEAKS on: January 07, 2011, 10:46:14 PM
and how is that negative -- i feel as if there are too many bans right now

But, that's because you revel in internet conflict.

EDIT: That or blind libertarian idealism.

For someone who claims to be free speech and anti-censorship, you sure tell people to shut up a lot.

Memory's hazy but I seem to remember this rabbit hole shifting into what the definition of writing is, as it could either mean the overarching story or the quality of the text in the boxes/spoken, also considered is proc. gen. where the player congeals a story out of what the game gives them.

I that said, a writing award would be awesome.
415  Player / Games / Re: earth-shattering battle between icycalm and jason rohrer on: January 04, 2011, 07:14:41 PM
i'm not sure what you mean by piece work. if you mean something like jenova chen and thatgamecompany making games like flower and flow for sony, no, i do not believe those games are indie, because sony owns the rights to them, not thatgamecompany. if you meant something else, clarify?

I was thinking along the lines of devs who do jobs to make ends meet inbetween their own projects. Though I do think thatgamecompany embodies the nebulous term "indie spirit". I try to avoid defining terms as debating words is more boring then debating ideas.
416  Player / Games / Re: earth-shattering battle between icycalm and jason rohrer on: January 04, 2011, 06:47:42 PM
here's the way to tell an indie from a non-indie: indies own the IP rights of the games they create, non-indies do not. because shinji mikami owns the IP rights of the games he creates, he is an indie.

That's a weird, but understandable definition. What if your studio does piece work for other companies?

Sorry Paul, no matter how hard you mold this clay, I'm not going to think there is an inherent bias against JRPGS. Your argument is broken on a couple of levels: how many games of each type are entered, the fact that the justification of calling your game a JRPG is leagues more stringent then a platformer, the difficulty and time sink differences between the creation between the two. You're comparing battleships to bicycles.

i know most jrpgs copy from each other too, but these platformers copy from each other far more than any jrpg
This is silly, you're being silly.  Gentleman

... that's a horrible argument!

I don't disagree, that's why I wasn't fully behind it when I said it. I've looked into other awards though, and a jury of peers is how it's decided, more often then not.

My main understanding is the preliminary juding round was handled by people of all stripes within gaming, including mainstream gaming press and developers.

Still, I don't understand why people see an event supporting what some would consider the cream of the crop of indie games and think to themselves, "This is a thing I need to shit on".
419  Player / Games / Re: IGF 2011 finalists revealed! on: January 03, 2011, 09:51:44 PM
The problem with picking judges is relevancy. How many critics are there that aren't indie game developers themselves? Are a handful of super enthusiastic Bloggers and "Enthusiast Press" enough to judge the 300+ submissions? Its hard to worry too much when the Academy Awards works on a similar system, really.

I agree that you should, under no circumstances, be in a position to boost your own game. But thinking the Indie community is super inbred is incorrect.

Aside, this is kind of why I'm sad people bitched so much about indie game get togethers being on the front page, I always thought they were the best ways to meet developers and make new friends, it showed that community is important. You realize how normal these dudes/dudettes are.

To be fair, I think "art fag" actually precedes the "nounfag" thing started by 4chan. Not that it makes much of a difference.

Dead Milkmen used the term way before 4 chan was ever relevant. Also, I heard 'Drama fag' a pile in highschool, also before 4 chan.
