So far I usually go with Elite set with below 50% equip load. Doesn't protect enough to just sit down and chip bosses though, since I usually raise VIT only after I have reached my other desired stats. Don't realy play/like PvP though. What I meant was how more of the game's bosses should be like Orn & Smough and perhaps Artorias/Manus who really pressure you almost constantly. Though many bosses get much more dangerous when taken down with pure melee. Pyromancy & sorcery ease things a lot.

More of the bosses should have unfair numbers and complement each others attacks?  That just sounds annoying.  Concerned

Mostly I wonder why the entire game isn't like Oociale township and the painted world; in that they're tightly designed, have clever shortcuts + bonfire placement, and actual nooks and cranies to explore.

I don't even know why I'm trying I don't use dragon weapons  Cry

Well yes, except those guys are literally HEY YOU WANT COOL STUFF Y/N?
Actually, laurentius gets pissed if you say yes, because he's asking if you find pyromancy offensive.

The only time it's really stupid is with Alvina, where its rather unclear what you're Y/Ning too.

Why would you tell him 'yes' when how he asks you "Are you a cleric or something?" has the same tone of voice as "Are you a child molester or something?" or "Are you a baby-killer or something?"  Cheesy

Beat the majority of everything before Sen's Fortress as a SL5 sorceror.
Feels good man

It also makes me realize that the "Average SL" of anything before Anor Londo is probably anywhere from base level to SL40, geez.  Facepalm

Also it's quite nice how beatable the Catacombs are, even without a divine weapon.  You just have to look around for clever shortcuts and those usually lead you right behind unsuspecting necromancers.  Grin

This should help with networking too

I already said that.

The scope of Toady's game is so big and taken so long already, I wouldn't be surprised if it was fueled purely by massive amounts of PCP and RedBull.

Or if he was secretly a game making AI; like SkyNet only with rougelikes instead of sending death robots to the past.  Cool
326  Developer / Design / Re: some indie game articles i found (theastronauts.com) on: November 10, 2012, 07:27:14 AM
He had me in the first article, where he encourages you to question the extreme amount of codified rules involved in AAA game making, but loses me in the second article.

"The best part of GTA3+ is riding around listening to the radio"
...while running down hookers and smashing things.

An entire game of just that anyway would be pretty boring.  Roll Eyes

"If you read discussions like Most Jaw-dropping Scenery or Sequence in a Game you can see that the things that people remember from their favorite games are:

    * Beautiful places
    * One off events like a helicopter boss fight or escaping a house on fire
    * Gameplay-less experiences like exploration or short interactive dramas"

Don't AAA games already focus heavily on those things? Isn't that why they're bad?

"And, on the other hand, in threads like that no one ever talks about the regular gameplay. No one mentions combat zones, jumping sequences, or enemy variety."

Because they're unilaterally not interesting in most AAA titles.

KGSDHFBDSdfsI'm going to throat-jab this guy.  Sad

edit:
I looked up The Walking Dead as his article suggested; what, what is this? I watched the trailers and it was like watching a trailer about a movie not something I actually play at all.  So Heavy Rain with zombies.

Heavy Rain with zombies is an example of what all games should be more like to this guy.  Lips Sealed

edit 2x:
Although, he does make me think that maybe we should have a distinction between games that are heavy on story-telling vs. games that are heavy on doing things.  Or rather shooting zombies in the face and collecting trinkets vs. interacting with characters and finding out their story because goddamn it I want to know because they're interesting.

If parrying works when they attack from the side, then thanks for confirming that the netcode sucks horribly.

IMO, the Abyss is like a pocket dimension, and a portal can be created anywhere that leads to it. The 4 Kings and the sorcerers of Oolacile both used the dark arts to open a portal. However, it is much larger on the inside than the outside, otherwise you could probably see it from Ash Lake.

Maybe the abyss is infinitely deep, that's why the only creatures that can live in it are the serpents, because they are infinitely long.

So basically, longframpt?

I'm so so sorry for dragging memes into this.

The yellow font has the same problem as the purple font... only yellow.  Concerned

The gray/green font is much more readable.

Full 3D?  Holy balls.

Time to check back with DF in year 2020.

>nooby interface
>get over it
>not everything meant for everyone

what

We're not even talking about learning the game, or the game being too difficult guys, we're talking about it not even remotely having an interface suitable for what you need to do to play.

Unfortunately it probably won't be fixed until its done because the game changes too fast, and since it will never be done the way Toady is going, it will never have a proper interface.  Sad

Now look what you guys have done

'Entrust thine flesh to me!'
etc

According to the retarded fanbase it's a "feature", but it really makes doing even the most mundane of tasks a total pain.

To answer the OPs question I know how to play, and it took awhile.  But even once you do its still a pain in the ass. Sad

It's like you have this really amazing game similar to dungeon keeper, but I have to play it with no mouse

and broken fingers

Inb4 intro narrator is Velka.  Who, Me?

Regarding the Primordial Serpents

I think the Primordial Serpents are basically acting on behalf of the ancient dragons. If you read the description of the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, it says "the serpent is an imperfect dragon."

It's also pretty clear to me that Kaathe and Frampt are allies despite what they say, and that there are a bunch more of them just waiting around behind the scenes (which we know from the Dark Lord ending).

This is just speculation but I'm also not convinced that Kaathe and Frampt are actually separate individuals. I think it's possible that they might just be roles that any of the serpents can fill at any given time. I haven't checked if they are actually separate voice actors, but if so, that would probably nix this idea. They are indeed the same voice actor.

...

I got the impression that at least Kaathe is in league with the ancient dragons, if only because he calls Seathe a dirty traitor. (traitor to who? traitor to dragons)

Your suggestion that they're the same serpent gives me the funny image of them being a snake with a head on either end, haha

I knew it, they're all assholes at FROM. Cheesy
335  Player / Games / Re: Dark Souls (and Demon's Souls) on: November 05, 2012, 11:25:00 AM
A regular claymore does more damage than a divine claymore with appropriate stats each? Even against heavily armored enemies?

That's screwed up.  Sad

I can't help but feel Dark Souls is a bit weak when it comes to balancing different damage types.
336  Developer / Writing / Re: ~ short stories ~ on: November 02, 2012, 05:32:46 PM
The pitch night is as still as the breeze that fills it, the trees call back a rustling echo of the gentle pushing wind, causing the whisper of rustling fir and pine trees fill the air. A lone night owl that stands on an outcropping tree branch lets out a soft sound of satisfaction as it pushes off its perch and descents to its prey below.

...

You better be making this as a game.  Wizard

Because dark souls is somehow fun

Maybe I should rephrase that to "Eclipse is to CDi Zelda..."
338  Developer / Design / Re: Calling all Metroidvania fans on: November 02, 2012, 09:49:34 AM
Moving to another topic: i have just played Bunny Must Die and thank god i pirated before considering buying it. That game gotta have the stupidiest flaws EVER. First: when you start you can only walk to the left, so if you miss somehow the powerup that let you walk to the right, you will have to suicide and start over again. And then when you gets the game over, there is no Restart option, you have to open the menu again and continue from your save. After that somehow i managed to get to the boss, a green girl whatsoever, i enjoeyd the touhou combat, but when i had to get out after killing her, i just couldn't. Why? I just couldn't jump over the fffffff ledge. So I closed  the game, deleted it and started crying.
There's a power-up past that boss that lets you jump past the cliff

It's also freeware.  So pirate whut?

But oh yeah, I'm working on a metroidvania right now.  I don't really want to spit out many details until I actually have something worth showing.  Cool

So, if using Eclipse to code is like having to play Dark Souls to code, why does everyone use it?  Do you just like being angry? Tongue

Yes, but can you parry them 20 times in a row?

I don't think we're grasping the difference in character power here.
