Well, I seem to have quite the affinity for science fiction films, when they're done properly.
If you could have any pet what would it be?

Depends on who I'm talking to; I don't really like talking about things that I know no one around me has heard of, because that's obnoxious. That said... Ultima VII or Planescape: Torment probably, because they're test-cases for most of the things I love in video games (though they're only obscure by mainstream standards).
Best Star Trek series?

Pet Sounds is boring.
Okay, here's one: there's nothing inherently pretentious and silly about "chillwave" outside of the ridiculous label. If you're going to revive something, I can't think of anything better than woozy 80s Italo-disco, personally.

I used to feel pretty strongly about never making playlists/using shuffle settings/whatever, but I don't care anymore. I still like to listen to albums as their creators intended them, but I don't think there's anything wrong with taking songs out of context (indeed, sometimes they are even more enjoyable when put in unexpected contexts) and I don't really think there's anything wrong with background music either.
Plus there's some music I like that I forget about for long periods of time, until hearing it at random makes me aware of it again. Complete control over what you listen to is great, but sometimes you don't actually know you want to listen to something until you're listening to it.

Super Smash Bros. sucks as a competitive fighting game. How is this controversial? I'm guessing because it is one of the most popular competitive fighting games? I'll admit it's not very good for it though, because like most Nintendo multiplayer games there's a significant element of unfairness. I don't mind though, I find it more fun than any fair fighting game.

90s FPSs are better than modern FPSs.
I totally agree. I also couldn't agree more about Uncharted (you forgot to mention how totally contrived the whole thing is - the climbing challenges are a laughable game of hunt-the-unlikelihood), and Mario 64 for that matter.

I definitely agree with the original post, but I also agree that it'd be really hard to make a game like that oneself. I feel more and more like making a story-based RPG these days, but every time I think about how hard it would be to implement one satisfyingly, I get all depressed.

I think Autechre is pretty out there if you're not used to listening to music that isn't melodic.
Perhaps I only found it weird because I don't really listen to hip-hop or anything, which I think has exposed the public to the idea of a "hook" that isn't melodic.
I don't like Dragon Age too much either. It's passable.

Yes and I don't like any of the bands that get the label stuck onto them that were formed after approx. 2000, also known as "Pitchfork bands".
On that note, I like (or at least, don't dislike) Pitchfork. I rarely agree with them, but their news updates are admirably frequent and they stick to their guns, such as they are (unlike, say, Rolling Stone, which is truly tripe). I don't know what has happened to make the scoffing that is directed toward them so widespread and acceptable, and this whole "that guy reads Pitchfork - 'nuff said" attitude is moronic, obnoxious and inexplicable (mostly because most people who say it are as sheeplike in their taste formation as the people they're calling out, they just pick a different source). It's a media outlet that is curated by people with specific tastes - isn't that every media outlet? - and just because you don't agree with them, doesn't make them terrible. Not to say their reviews are always well-written or anything, because they're not, but I don't quite understand the implicit ridicule when everyone talks about them.

Music: No "indie rock" (not the same as "independent rock") band formed after 2000 is worth listening to.
My problem with this statement is that there are a lot of bands that get stuck with that label whether or not they deserve it, and that is because the label is vague. Here's one - the Lord of the Rings films are a disgrace to film-making and maybe even storytelling in general, with the possible exception of the first one. The characters are one-dimensional and simplistic (especially Gollum - when did "conflicted personality" become the same thing as "multiple personalities"?), the battle sequences endless and boring, the dialogue poor, the plot nonsensical (don't get me started on the "Sam ate all the bread" part) and the cinematography terrible (Jackson is obsessed with sweeping shots and extreme close-ups on people's faces... the first thing is okay, the second not so much). Among other things.
