I guess games like this one where the "message" is the biggest selling point have their place. Other than that, it's like if Braid's story was turned into an incredibly bare-bones adventure game with stupidly obvious solutions and then stripped of all other redeeming qualities This is the problem, though. No "message" can make up for these shortcomings.

The Mario games that are more nostalgia-focused are NSMB, NSMBWii and this one, I think. I'm okay with that, in the same sense I'm okay with Mega Man 9 and 10.
Still, Mario could be more like Kirby - Kirby is always coming up with weird, experimental games, and different art styles. It makes the series feel way less stale like that.

I just realized there's a new trailer for this game on the eShop. Same for the new Paper Mario, Mario Tennis and Mario Kart.
Couldn't this be a general Mario thread?.

Mass Attack has some really out-of-character for a Kirby game difficulty spikes. It doesn't get Mega Man hard or anything, but well, I was breezing through a stage with 10 healthy Kirbys, and then BOOM!, I lose 7 of them This is a strong favorite Kirby game candidate for me so far. HAL did a fantastic job making a 2D platformer feel so fresh and creative.

I have a feeling it will turn out okay. How bad can a Mario platformer get anyway? NSMB was bad but not absolutely awful.

Intelligent Systems will release their first 3DS Ware title in Japan next week, Hiku-osu. Looks okay, I hope it makes it to the American and European eShop. Taking control of Maro, you'll need to push and pull (respectively the "Hiku" and "Osu" of the title) the blocks in order to create pathways as you advance to the stage's goal.

Happy birthday!
I'm almost one decade older than you. You were either non-existent or a baby when a lot of my favorite games were released. Feels weird.

Not necessarily my favorite games: 1- Jungle Hunt (Atari 2600). This was probably the first game I ever played, when I was like 4, 10 years after it was released. I honestly don't remember if it's good or bad, I used to play it for very short sessions. My Atari wasn't always plugged it, only when my parents wanted me to play it. I don't know if it belongs here, since at the time I didn't even love games, but being my first game is kind of important I guess. 2- Street Fighter II (Arcade/SNES). This game is the reason I'm here I didn't like video games and wouldn't go to the arcades with my brother, until I found about SFII. I instantly became obsessed, I used to drawl A LOT of SF stuff and would play SFII all day long. When I grew up I started becoming decent at it, enjoying the series even more. Up until Alpha 2 it was my favorite gaming series, and I still like it a lot. 3- Super Mario 64 (N64). But then I played Super Mario 64. No game has impressed me as much as SM64 did and I doubt any game will. It was absolutely mind blowing, charming, polished, absurdly fun, atmospheric, replayable, just perfect. I had already played the original NES trilogy and World, but this was the game that made me love the series. Right now I prefer Sunshine and SMB2, but this game is huge in my gaming history. 4- Pokémon Red (GB). Not my first RPG, but the first one I liked. And by liked I mean absolutely loved and obsessed over it. I still love the series, White was fantastic, just like Pearl, Ruby and Silver. 5- Mega Man X (SNES). I was stuck with this game for a long time with no new purchases for my SNES. I played the hell out of it even if I originally wanted Mortal Kombat 3, not knowing at the time it was a vastly superior game. I love everything about this game and while I ended up liking the original Mega Man series better, this was a great introduction to the series and is one of my favorite games ever. Games sadly left out: Mortal Kombat 2 (my first SNES game), Kirby Air Ride, Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1), Tekken 3, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros.

I don't think I'm getting one at launch anymore. First, I'm struggling to find games I really want for it. Second, the battery is kind of a big issue if it's even worse than the 3DS battery. Third, I may lose my job soon

Maybe I'm a slow buyer, but there are plenty of 3DS games I want for this year. The next one being Tetris Axis, and then Doctor Lautrec
