How's Zenzizenzic for a twin stick shmup? Horrible right? I like the name. The name has (to me) some hyperactive vibes that should go well with shmups. [...] I was thinking of incorporating a Scottish/ Old English theme. My initial thought was to call it "Clan" or "The Clan," but that has some negative connotations, at least where I'm from (southeast US). [...] @TaftsBathtub & siskavard: While I like "Patriarch" as a game name, the name is imho not gaelic enough . @TaftsBathtub: Did you read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_clan? How about calling the game "the clann" or "clanna"? Maybe this lessens the negative connotation. Maybe "clanship" also does the job.

I just stumbled on this topic. Just in case you unfreeze it I want to be informed by my "Show new replies to your posts."-overview . I love the druggy atmosphere! It reminds me of Glitch on a LSD horror trip (instead of a peaceful shroom fantasy ).

... but as far as wind moving the boats, and the other floating objects, I'm definitely very curious what you had in mind, as I'm having a hard time imagining how those things would fit into the game mechanics I'm considering implementing. just made a quick doodle: http://i.imgur.com/SX6daBP.jpg The wind (launched at certain angles) could be so strong that it elevates the boat for a short time, so you can pass smaller obstacles by flying over them. It could be some sort of side-scroller. Even while it's not the player's turn the multi-layered background would move from right to left, giving the whole scene a sensation of movement. This would also explain why the ships (seen from the side) "stand" on the waves - they just move constantly and the viewport with them.

I like this idea very much. Maybe you could add a wind action, where you can aim with your boat just the way you would do when shooting, but instead of shooting a projectile wind would blow the boat in the specified direction (if possible). Floating ice bergs, giant turtles, swimming islands etc. could serve as cover, so the player will want to swim to these. good luck !

I like "Fukushima" the most. At least in the Western world it's associated with (post)apocalypse and Japan. It's Japanese for "Good-Fortune Island". It seems to be very rainy there. If useful the game could play in an alternative reality with a world wide apocalypse. The player could explore this contemporary serious setting in the game. The player characters would be ghosts of humans and the lizards would represent toxified nature... ^^ Sorry...I am so curious about your game, I already make up my own little stories :D
some more brainstorming: tears of (the) rain / tomorrow / yesterday (drenched in pathos :D) alone in the rain raindrops drops in the rain wet / dripping / teary / blue fur (beware: sexual connotation)

[driving game] All programming by VonZippenstein. I just made the pictures
wonderful. Since I recently listened to Lazerhawk (unfortunately I discovered "outrun electro" so late) I have the urge to make such a racing game. @siskavard: your animations and fluffy creations are brilliant

I would recommend to follow the Java coding style and use the outline view/code completion of your IDE to get an overview of a class instead of using these one line methods. You should also use javadoc, then you can easily handle thousands of classes. Using reasonable package names will also help organizing your code.

DokuWiki worked out great for my needs. It's also flat file but uses PHP.
A friend of mine uses it too and recommended it to me, being in PHP it should work with most webspace providers. I currently use google docs.

@Soulliard: If you really want to go the C++ route, emscripten might be interesting for you (c++ to html5). http://www.cocos2d-x.org/ is listed as wip on the emscripten project page. I always hear good stuff about sfml. I personally want to make a cross-plattform 3D game. Since the PR disaster of Adobe I don't really know if I should place my bet on Stage3D/Flash/AIR, Java/WebGL via GWT is my alternative... I should probably just start programming and use Flash, this solution is at least the most mature one (beside unity) [when you want to target mobile and web in 3d] and maybe the Flex guys will develop Flash to JS support soon.

My day job is software developer. I am a game development hobbyist since I am 12 years old. I have new ideas every day. In every idea I see some potential. Some random ideas:
elevator quest (more or less a thematic idea with some minor gameplay gimmicks) -> tiny mobile rpg about travelling through an ancient mega tower with an elevator as your homebase, you can upgrade the elevator etc.
social card game [working title socio ccg] (innovative idea (?))-> you become a card in a customizable card game and can build decks with cards of yourself, friends and random strangers. You can level up your card and make it rare etc. Every player draws some cards on a daily basis, the maximum count of cards you can own is limited...
I don't lack ideas I need time and long term motivation. I guess many will feel the same, even you might feel this way. Creative projects are about making ideas come true. Google Labs has the money to experiment, I have enough time and resoucers to help a little here and there and experiment with my own ideas.
I wish you good luck, but I think you will have to expose your idea a little more to get at least some people interested. Sorry that I posted here. I am active on three game development boards and once in a while I cannot resist to post in these kind of "let's make an mmo, ps i am the idea guy"-threads. I should know better. Talk is silver, silence is golden.

[...] [...]Feedback, crits and comments are welcome.[...] Looks nice I would like to see a version without high heels. I think it would look more brute, more serious and would take some exploitative vibes away.

You have a rough business idea, why do you think somebody should work with you? What is your personal UVP? Did you read this? 4. Also, we're VEEERRRY skeptical of people who post jobs as "producers" or "designers" looking for people to work for no money upfront. Not just that... it's a certain type - generally they haven't completed any games before and/or want to make something overambitious for their experience level. They don't actually DO anything themselves, like art, programming, or music... they're just "producers" or "designers". These projects have a very slim chance of working out and can wreck the people who work on them, so if this sounds like you, expect skepticism if you post.
