So, if I organize my own high-profile indie event I can play it eh?  Undecided

Got to the first boss fight on Deus Ex... the game was so good until now, why Eidos? Why?  Cry
583  Player / Games / Re: REVENGE of the PLATFORMERS!? on: August 29, 2011, 05:24:20 AM
I guess big companies started noticing that the old 16-bit generation now has their own money and is missing old 16-bit platformers, hence the comeback of 2d platformers. Also, the whole indie games popularization that happened on this generation of consoles with the fact that indies make a lot of 2d platformers helped.

As for the 3D ones, pretty much every 3D action game out there has some platforming elements, a lot of them have a more realistic approach to it like Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia and Uncharted.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 needs to be mentioned more here, the thing combines 2D and 3D platforming perfectly in a lot of different ways, everyone thinking about making a platformer, 2D or 3D, should play it!

To me, Batman: AA mashes stealth and action gameplay perfectly, something that a lot of games tried before and failed. Also, has a lot of exploration and backtracking, which as a big Metroid fan, I approve! The only low point of the game to me are the boss battles that are all pretty much the same :/

Talking about stealth, I'm playing Deus EX right now, liking it so far.

Sounds interesting, trying to lose some weight right now. Worth the shot, anyone have invites?

Oh well, I'm going back to work on my MMO: "Planet of WarMaking"  Well, hello there!
587  Player / Games / Re: Block that matter on: August 22, 2011, 03:52:12 PM
Bought it and the core mechanics are interesting, it's a weird mix of platforming, Minecraft and Tetris. Found it a little boring though.

The plot is actually that those two successful developers were working on the robot that you control during the game and you have to save them. But yep, those banners are shameless and they give the idea that notch and Pajitnov worked on the game. I only saw those images after playing it.

I'm working on a flash game right now and planning to go for a sponsorsphip and then an iOS port, just like you did. So, that was pretty useful Smiley

The poll seems pretty unanimous.

Yeah, closing it now.

Zynga found a way to make money out of it and now everyone is just trying to be them without trying anything new.

So, what would be something new in your opinion? I like the idea of beating the crap out of something to get something to beat the crap out of your friends idea. I was thinking of having some military mechanic like civilazation does.

That would be interesting. I started playing Civilization on Facebook and it has nothing to do with real Civ :/

Facebook gives you access to all your "real" friends, not just your gamming buddies. It looks perfect to me for games with focus on creating and sharing stuff like Little Big Planet.

95% of the game in Social Network like facebook are NOT social game, instead it should be called "game only playable in Social Network".

This! I think social network integration can add something interesting to games, but not the way it's being done today. Zynga found a way to make money out of it and now everyone is just trying to be them without trying anything new.

Always liked creating stories, worlds, characters... in other times I would probably be a writer but since I've been playing games since I can remember that ended up becoming my medium of choice.

Looks great to me.

Gameplay is looking a lot like No More Heroes, which is fine by me Smiley
593  Player / Games / Re: Most Anticipated Unreleased Indie Games (2011 version) on: August 15, 2011, 09:30:49 AM
I'm not interested in the vast majority of commercial indie games. There's still good freeware/hobbyist type stuff coming out but unfortunately it gets eclipsed by commercial releases. What I used to like about TIGS when I discovered it back in 08 was the sense of equality between "amateurs" and "pros."  A sense even if you were just some dude making games in his bedroom you were part of a "scene." All that seems to have disappeared over the last 2 years.

Most developers doing "commercial" games started as hobbyist/freeware developers. I like to see indie developers getting more resources and being able to make bigger projects. If anything, successful indie stories motivate more bedroom programmers to work on their games bringing more people to the scene and more hobbyist games. So, if you like the hobbyist, bedroom programmer stuff, you're getting more of that, everybody wins!

Wasn't because of stuff like that that the 83 Crash happened?
599  Player / Games / Re: The Humble Indie Bundle #3 on: August 11, 2011, 08:30:09 AM
it's certainly good for the indies who get in it, but i imagine it might train some people into thinking 'oh, this is an indie game? i'll wait until it's in the humble indie bundle and then i'll buy it' just like when a game appears on steam many people (including me) tend to wait for it to be on sale for like 75%+ off before buying it, and how some people don't buy a game unless it's on steam

And how some people don't buy a mobile game unless it's 99 cents and now think that 3DS and Vita games should all cost that. And how some people complain about 2D platform games like DKC Returns being at retail price.

Soon people won't even have to buy mobile games anymore.
For example, for android they can just connect to the amazone appstore and wait until the game they want is put on the free weekly list. they get the game for nothing, without ads. And the develloper gets nothing. It's the future.

The developer gets nothing!? Really? That doesn't make sense  WTF

The fact that so few games get in the bundle and that the bundles are spaced apart pretty generously means it is not likely to postpone purchases.

I think hey should be even more spaced apart, this is the second one this year already and I'm sure they'll have another one on Christmas like last year. Make it one per year and instead of including the last bundle just make it bigger. Like Paul Eres said making this too frequent will train people to buy indie games only when they are on a HIB.

About Steam Sales: Not sure if you're allowed to answer this but, when a game is on sale, does Valve bite the bullet for you and you still get the same amount of profit?
