Dark Souls finally arrived

Also started playing Heavy Rain. That game is WAY better than I thought it would be. Loving it.

Also fitting in some God of War 3 sessions when I can

Why place this restriction on your project just to get the side effect of their global friendly access status when there's plenty of other easier and more suitable solutions?

Which ones are you suggesting exactly?

On a side note the guy who wrote Engine Architecture mentions one of the main benefits of singletons being that you can have control over static initialization order since that is undefined in c++.

Very interesting AC. I will have to give that a try.

you might have a look at the singleton pattern

about
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singleton_pattern

implementation in c++
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cpp/singletonrvs.aspx

It's basically a class that has a static private member of it's own type and a static method to get to it. A global that ensures it's only instantiated once.

I tend to use them for my image and sound managers.

about half level design stuff, half coding stuff. Perhaps the occasional cat video.

I keep retrying blender every couple years. I'm about due for another retry.

I've used Max, Maya and XSI as my main tools in my working/career life. For my home life I can't really afford a copy so I'm going to be using blender by default.

I just haven't liked blenders UI in the past. I remember feeling the same way about XSI but eventually I got used to it. Hopefully this time around it sticks Smiley

I have been looking at Modo and Silo lately too. I do mostly environment work and Modo apparently has some awesome hard surface modeling tools. less than a 3rd the price of the bigger modeling packages too.

There's no pro tool. They all pretty much do the same thing.

You're paying for school and it's a school related project. I would complain to your program head or SA that their security is preventing you from furthering your education.

I would say adjust your game design to use low res graphics and do them yourself. You might find out they turn out better than you thought they would.

You can always get sounds at freesound.org too

Yeah flixel is dead easy to learn. I'm fairly often modifying the library myself too. It's not complicated.

my apologies. I fixed it.
1575  Player / Games / Re: League of Legends on: September 23, 2011, 09:06:06 AM
last few things they changes was a smaller ult area and fixed a bias for the cannon balls to fall more often in one of the quadrants. Can't remember which one.

@im9today - i don't doubt it, but i'm just going by my experience. i've only rarely seen good morganas and never seen one carry the game as an ap carry. maybe she's supposed to be played as more of a support/ap? i don't really see a good role for her on a team. even if she's mid and holds her own mid she can't get like 20/6 scores because her late game damage output is so low compared to normal ap carries

i don't think she's bad bad but in my experience sitting in the lobby i'd be more comfortable with a random pub picking annie, ryze, brand, malzahar, lux, karthus, swain, vlad, kassadin, veigar, anivia, or oriana as an ap choice. but i'd still rather have that person pick morgana than cass

She's def sort of a support AP with a brutal init. If you can get her in the center of the enemy team ult and then use the active on the hourglass it's usually over for them assuming the rest of your team cleans up.

She's def one of my best characters in a team situation. I use her when we need a tanky/AP like morde.

Sad to see so many people calling for morg nerfs all the sudden. Sad

what do you mean by a snare and a stun? what is her stun? i don't recall her having one

That's the best part. If the team stays within her ult for a short duration they get stunned and damaged again. Her ult can do about 400-500 damage twice to every team member as well as slow and stun them. It's like a weaker damage version of Kat's ult that slows, stuns and can't be cancelled.

1577  Developer / Technical / Re: How easy is to port an XNA app -> C++ ? and in the future to C++ & WinRT? on: September 17, 2011, 09:09:06 AM
So I just listened to the Tested podcast about windows 8 and it sounds like things aren't so bad.

Nothing is certain but they said it sounds like you can run XNA in metro mode if you write code that would work on the windows 7 phone or Zune. So it just means you can't certain things.

IIRC one of them was you have to use the SoundEffect class with individual files instead of XACT (which I do anyways).

Windows 8 won't run XNA? Seriously?

Edit: I see from a quick google search that it won't work in the metro mode. Is that a big issue?

This is probably the writing on the wall for me to switch to SFML or something along those lines.

Such a great game. One point in that game was one of the most memorable moments in gaming for me. I thought my computer was messing up or I was going crazy.

played with tariq, his ult is pretty strong. Did quite well with him.
