Yeah, I think the justified insurrection over Valve's announcement turned into disgust and a mild form of rage in some places. I think most reactions you see are a result of people being surprised and disappointed by Valve. This is a new tactic for them. I'm sure most people, upon buying L4D, expected lots and lots of new content (including guns and new zombie monsters, but ahead of all: new campaigns) to be delivered within the following months. Simply because Valve has/had a history of supporting their games like this (see: CounterStrike, CS:S, TF2, DoD:S). People have had their expectations fucked and act a bit pissed now. It's just sad to see Valve step away from the cool crowd towards the EA/Ubisoft corner.

I thought the point of these competitions was to have interesting, new limitations. Which in turn result in interesting, new games. Now, having a direct sequel to a formerly used theme is not an interesting, new limitation. It's doing the same thing again.
Why not have a "make any game" compo?

I reserved the room on my name, but I just kind of "blocked" it so that it's reserved for us. When you arrive, you check in as usual and pay on your own, just as you would without any reservation.

Room is reserved from friday till monday, exactly the time the BIGJam lasts. Costs are 19 euro a night for the 8-bed room (and for everyone who sleeps in it), other prices can be seen here. I'll try to find some other recommendable hostels in the immediate area though. I guess it's best to have a "first come, first serve" kind of thing for this 8 bed room, since I don't know of another civilized and fair way to do it without potentially stepping on someone's toes. It's open for debate though, if you got a better idea/cleared this with others already.

Same here, B-Games 2 would be a crucial step in the compo history of this site, and it wouldn't be one into the right direction. TIGSource compos have so far been about finding new, quirky, clever ideas and limitations to create fine, interesting and/or hilarious games. To re-use an existing compo theme signals to me "We have run out of cool ideas and give up". It's an indulgence in the past, instead of trying to shape the future (in an extended point of view). I strongly oppose B-Games 2, or any other compo theme remake.

I dunno, the Langwell accusations seem quite unjustified/unprovable. Better not do that. :/

Who does shit like that. I mean, is there a link to some scam website or anything? Or is it just gruesome pics? I don't see the motivation behind this.

I actually think it's a good thing, and that it can be used for exciting stuff. But that lag it had in the presentation (almost a second I'd estimate) puts me off.

On most maps the team has to work together to allow for the engineer to build his stuff, ie. the engineer is a central part of the defence. It's alright that his stuff can be destroyed easily (I don't even think it blows up so easily - the sapping takes very long for example) since it's a team game - an engineer alone stands no chance, but if you have a team playing clever, you'll clog endless amounts of frags on your sentry.

Since some people have been asking in the IRC channel: We'll be able to stay in St Oberholz until about midnight - that's when they plan to close their place. Also, info on how to get to the place will be added in a few days, along with a fancy flyer. There's a subway exit right next to the café, at Rosenthaler Platz, which makes getting there a lot easier. And to save you the trouble of having to understand Berlin's subway map, we'll let you know which lines to take to reach the jam from any of the two Berlin airports.
