I can't tell whether Paul is engaging in incisive self-satire or not. It seems like a long time to carry on a joke.

I was saying earlier, if they called it like 'indie game marketplace' it wouldn't annoy me. But what concerns me about this is that uninformed people may see indie as strictly equalling an MS-indie-game whatever branded thing. This could create a confusion to the marketing niche indies have been trying to create for themselves. I don't believe that it is unreasonable to perceive this as threatening. Better yet, I think that MS should have instead taken this as an opportunity to forge a new brand, like Xbox user originals or XDev arcade or something. The fact that they didn't is a little telling about their confidence in the merits of the service itself, I think.

$40's a bit much under the circumstances, I might wait for the next half-off weekend. (that said, the game does rock, IMO)

Hm, I think basically what you're asking is, 'does it sound canned'? And the answer is yes, but not badly. It's EXTRAORDINARILY difficult to emulate the nuances a musician can give a performance with his instrument. You can fake it though! Try doing things like mixing a little modulation in where it seems right, pitch bending on stringed instruments, grace notes, and trills. Just like with painting, it doesn't have to BE correct it just has to SEEM correct. Also, your dynamic range seems a little flat; try varying velocity a little more, and particularly try to think about what sections you want to stand out and adjust the velocity there accordingly. There's both a micro and a macro element to it- making notes louder or quieter in a passage and making passages louder or quieter in respect to other passages.
Personally it's all too much trouble for me, so I just use obviously electronic instruments whenever possible :D

Oh shit Flixel's online now? I'll have to check that out. For the engine I've been piecing together for work, I have it set up to use DisplayObject, BitmapData, and two custom classes (BitmapAnimation and ParticleSystem) interchangeably. The performance boost you get for direct blitting is really tremendous, but losing the ability to rotate and scale is a bitch. Mixing the two is a pretty good way to play it if you can pull it off, IMO.

Firstly: Gender is regarded among many as being distinct from biological sex and more representative of ones alignment along boundaries, however nebulous and/or imaginary those may be.
Secondly: There's almost certainly some broad trends in psychology that differentiate the sexes. It's not ignorant or offensive to suggest that is the case. What is offensive is to apply broad trends among groups to individuals, and seeing as no one in this thread has done that I may respectfully submit that those who attacked Paul's theories may have jumped the gun a little (and, in one case, a lot).

I believe melee weapons are temporary equipment like gas cans. You drop them by switching back to a gun or item. Could be wrong, but I believe that's how it works.

Bigger is nice because it lets you draw properly (IE using your arm) more, but 6x9 is plenty to work with. Also, I have not found tilt sensitivity to be nearly as useful as I'd hoped. If anyone's figured out a useful way to map that parameter in PShop or Painter I'd like to hear it.

2 weeks before Left 4 Dead. I like the black dude. He's like the comic relief of the group. Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Francis and Zoey are both funnier than Louis. All of the characters have some pretty good lines though.

This taking less time than L4D1 isn't really a worrying sign to me at all. Everyone here should know how much easier it is to build a new game from a stable base than to start from scratch, and the head start they have in terms of pre-fabs, gameplay code, and play-testing makes a huge difference.
Also, I doubt they're going to actually hit that release date :D

And here we're getting another complete game with new characters and campaigns. I don't see where the consumer got shafted at all... Yeah but if you look on the steam l4d forums it's like a chorus of people saying exactly what he's saying. It's a little ridiculous; I can kind of see where people are coming from in terms of the content that was implied to be released for l4d, but if you look at the game itself and how much it gives for the price I consider it a pretty damn good deal. I've got like 200 hours in on it myself.
