BlitzMax is where it's at man. ...Well, unless you don't like writing your own collision functions. ...or funky basic. Not a big update overall, but I'll still buy it eventually. That sums things up nicely!

Skofo might be right on this. I just bought it. The alpha channel in the sprite editor is nice(you don't have to make an additional sprite sheet for alpha masks). But the softwrap - having to be plugged-in to be able to use the pro version is pretty abusive. I either have to crack it to be able to continue working on the go, or keep using version 7 on my laptop. On the up side, 25$ is not that expensive a screw You seriously have to stay online to use the Pro version? Isn't going Pro sort of supposed to be proof that you bought the thing?

Ben- Yep. I tried it, unplugged my connection. It brought up the splash asking me if I wanted to go pro again. Closed it, plugged the internet back on. It loaded normally.

Quite so. Yet another case of customers being treated like criminals in the name of anti-piracy, despite the fact that it never works.

Totally quoting for truth I don't even imagine what Marks thinks of this whole situation. Is he fine with the crap Yoyogames has been doing to GM?

Unlike most of us, he sees GM for what it can do and not what it is, apparently. I like the new logo. Even though it took a shitstorm to come to it, I really think it's pretty nice. The GM8 update isn't really that worth your money if you have to pay for it, I think. At least, not this minute. Although it's much improved and streamlined from GM7, it has one thing that really pisses me off about the new sprite editor. Go into it, zoom in, and start drawing something. You should figure it out pretty quickly. @Derek Search the manual for "What Is New"

Eh, it's been going downhill since YoYo Games "rebranded" it. I called it way back when.

The speed increase seems pretty real, at least. Loading Spelunky takes about half as long as it did before.

Yup, I just "ported" my Assemblee entry over to GM8 from GM7 without problems and the speed increase definitely is real. I mean for the price I paid for it (nothing) I'm happy with it but I can't shake off the feeling that it should have been a patch and not an entirely new version.

I have always wondered why it takes game maker games so long to load. It seems they take way way longer than it would take to actually load the resources to memory.

A speed increase is nice, but... other than that?
'Package of sounds and graphics etc etc'.... oh boy. Hearkens back to the days of mocking n00bs for using the RTP graphics in RPGM2K. A whole new class of elitism.
