I get jealous of the people that get to listen to music while they work... Since I'm a sound designer during the day, that's not really an option for me. Usually it's just me, my coffee, and my DAW.
When I'm coding a game though, I love to put on documentaries. Expand the mind and such.

I just listen to Paris One (no, I'm not french) while programming, their music is pretty relaxing (but only if you select trance and not dance, for example)

Dayjob is different to Indie Evening Job, but I presume it's the indie one people are interested in. I work in a bedroom, dimly lit by a bedside lamp, fuelled by beer and cigarettes . Usually I don't listen to music, since my girlfriend is asleep here (we have wildly different sleep patterns), but on occasion I'll stick on some headphones. Usually it's indie game soundtracks (I'm listening to the Machinarium soundtrack at the moment, but World of Goo is also a favourite), but I've also been absorbing a lot of B. Dolan ( http://www.myspace.com/bdolansfr) for most of this year.

Sometimes I'll listen to old video game music (SupraDarky's channel on Youtube especially). I tend to listen to more electronic music while programming than at any other time.

I watch something(in a tiny window in the corner of the screen) without paying attention to it, usually sitcoms and cartoons. I have seen most sitcoms several times over... Basically, I watch very "mild" entertainment. Or I listen to a podcast, preferably about competitive games or just games. Basically I need some sort of background noise.

I used to have music always at background but right now not so often. Reading Animator's Survival Kit where listening music while working was discouraged since in silent work amount seemed to rise I thought maybe that could affect for programming and graphic work too. Not that that is the main reason of current silentness, rather I have overconsumed my itunes library. Podcasts would be nice except most of interesting ones are english and my listening and understanding at the same time still needs rather high concentration so it's out of option

I put a Pink Floyd record that loops endlessly. It helps me focus and write dialogues more easily. Generally I think music is the best way.

When i'm drawing i like to play some TV show in the background, preferably something i've already seen before but i'm happy to see again. I find it efficient to have this kind of constant, minor distraction going on. It prevents me from falling into more serious distractions like taking a break on Facebook and ending up watching stupid videos for an hour.
If my work involves writing i like to listen to instrumental music, like "Tri repetae" by Autechre.

What's yours?

Cant' get anything done if some nice music is not playing. Coding is a lonesome task, and being indoors on a beautiful day tackling math/coding problems while the rest of the world mills about outside can be rather depressing. Music brings some sort of happiness to this programmer.
Life gets easier at night time, for some reason. Productivity increases.
