You touched on Japanese indie games briefly in the show, just wanted to feedback that the Japanese indie scene is actually going really strongly and has been for some years. When I last went to Japan over a year ago, you had high street gaming shops with sections devoted entirely to indie games (and no not just porn stuff) I picked up a big batch of games including shooters, brawlers, platformers and RPGs. I also know there's a lot of free stuff online too from the same scene.

I really wanted to talk about Japanese indie games, but besides classics like La-Mulana and Cave Story, there's really not much I've been exposed to in the States. Perhaps you could come on as a guest and discuss it...?

Oh, and correction: the name of the 'doujin game' I was talking about was not called "Emotion Sniper", but, in fact, "Material Sniper".

VVVVVV

I think it's been mentioned in this thread and across the forums a good few times, though you said five Vs lol.

Good game though, I listened to all of it. Constructive critique, I think you should split the whole thing up with music or other random interviews and articles/features that freshens the whole thing up. If it's going to be an hour, then avoid the long gaps. Doesn't need to feel manufactured, I really enjoyed it! But maybe capped time allocations for each topic that allow you to practice wrapping it up before the next change over (in which a song or something could play) then come back and move onto a new subject.

It's gotten better and better, so keep up the great work.

Thanks! I'll try to round up some guests and/or community topics to discuss next time...or the time after that, since I won't be able to make the next session. We do need to insert breaks or such, but the problem is that we have so few guests to cycle through!

You'd like that, wouldn't you. Well, hello there!

Just finished a semester's worth of Japanese literature. Still have no idea what this means.

I'd love to come on the show to talk about Japanese indie gaming. As long as I can also talk a bit about my own indie efforts too. ^_^

Could I sugget the sort of standard format a lot of gaming podcasts follow:
- News
- What You've Been Playing
- Main Discussion Topic / Interview
- Listener Feedback / Questions

A lot of the mainstream podcasts use this format and while it's not innovative it's certainly functional and breaks the show up into some obvious chunks to focus discussion and help guide the listener through.

This is (sort of) the format we are aiming for, actually, although with a little twist of our own:

- What Are You Playing?
- What Are You Developing? (place to pimp your game, maybe talk about design a little)
- News
- Music break (now that we have music)
- Featured topic/topics
- Reader feedback/questions/interviews/extras

I think this will be a good format for us in the long run, as it lets us hit most of the indie game bases.

As for malec, your editing was impeccable. If you want to add the music yourself, go ahead, otherwise I will add it tomorrow. I'll also try and finish the other podcasts tomorrow so that we can start with a fresh slate.

Nice. Very nice. Something you could eventually do is have essentially a music break between each section, introducing a new artist, or indeed every two sections until you have more variation.

But those structures are looking mighty fine. And yes, I'd love our music to be used Smiley OF COURSE I WOULD! lol.

I'd be up for making some more very short musical punctuation marks Smiley

That's a good idea, however I was more getting at showcasing new music, but initially making music FOR the TIGCast or using particular tunes from the same artists for the next couple until more musicians are willing to plug into the show, which tbh who wouldn't want to really?

I think it's a case of making this a bit more apparent to the good music makers of the board and off the board that there is a place to be plugged.

Ah i was thinking just about making music so the podcast is more interesting (not that it isn't, music could just make it better  Wink)

But yeah I guess your right, and I doubt that I'd shun more exposure.

Yeah I think showcasing a couple of songs during the show would be nice but having little music stingers between segments is a good idea too.

I doubt you want a full song between *every* segment as it would mean a lot of music each week and changing the focus of the show.

Yeah, the stringers between segments would have to be 30 seconds at the very most. The music break will be a full song of around 3 minutes to give the listeners a brief interlude from the chattering.

Also, if the music really turns out in force, we can do a little indie music podcast/radio to complement the main show and showcase indie musicians. That's something to consider later, though.
