Heavy Rain looks like it will either be a huge revolution, or a great failure. Regardless of that, it is a very unique title, probably enough to at least deserve an award for Most Original Title of 2010. There is no game like it out there, and if all goes well, it may be the Citizen Kane of games. Maybe it will attract many non-gamers, non-teens and non-kids, or maybe it won't. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ces-10-heavy-rain/60505http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ces-10-heavy-rain/60511http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ces-10-heavy-rain/60511http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ces-10-heavy-rain/60513

I think it will not do anything for the games industry. EDIT: Okay that was smug. I still think it's just a series of QTEs that rather than revolutionize games will show exactly why it might be a good idea to focus on creating good gameplay first and foremost. While I do appreciate it as an experiment I don't think it deserves the hype (if there is any).

Well, its story, characters, and gameplay are largely different from most games. Also, it is aiming to attract an adult audience, so that's at least something special to keep in mind about this game. If it fails, maybe we can see other titles attempt to do what it did and actually succeed. I can tell you right now that--GOW3, FFXIII, Halo Reach, any other game yuo can think of--are not as special as this game.

If it is anything like Fahrenheit, then I'll be happy. (Indigo Prophecy in the US) Apart from the plot, obviously. Edit:And I'm one of the people who found the plot barely acceptable in Fahrenheit. Towards the end it did get a bit... incoherent, to say the least.

Special doesn't mean good. Like I said after my edit, I do appreciate the experiment in a vacuum but I don't think it qill revolutionize anything. Hasn't there been numerous games aimed to attract an adult audience before this by the way? Fahrenheit and more? The only thing Heavy Rain does is taking it to the extreme, basically making it CSI with QTEs (okay, that's harsh, but you get my point). While GOW3, FFXIII or whatever are not as special I'm suspecting they will still be a whole lot better games.

True, but the plot and characters look pretty similar to a lot of generic US cop shows. In that context, it looks utterly unremarkable. Also, it is aiming to attract an adult audience, so that's at least something special to keep in mind about this game.
Aren't most gamers adults already?

Obviously the plot and characters are going to be very similar to those of TV shows or movies. However, when compared to most of the games that have come out or which are coming out in the future, it is pretty original. And it seems as if the characters will actually feel pretty realistic, thus the writing should be top-notch. It should be able to tackle a lot of video game clichés, to say the least. When was the last time that you actually saw a game as focused on its characters, and set in such a realistic environment like Heavy Rain?
I'm positively sure that there will be a lot of people from the press discussing this game after it is released, regardless of how successful it is. Hopefully it will let more non-gamers stop calling/seeing games as nothing but toys for kids.

While I see your point I still don't think it will make a big impact. It IS nice to see tries at innovation (even though it's innovation I find going in the wrong direction) in AAA-titles but I think the core problem Heavy Rain will have is that the gameplay actually looks lackluster.

What's so bad about the gameplay? It takes a more minimalist approach. I would be more worried about the controls than about the gameplay because that is something that looks like it will make or break the game.

To me the controls are part of the gameplay. But yeah, my issue is that it looks like it's mainly a gazillion quick time events. I'm generally one of few who likes QTEs from time to time (heck, I liked Ninja Blade) but Heavy Rain looks like it takes it to the extreme. It's like watching a whole movie while pressing buttons, it feels like it can become more frustrating than immersive. There's a lot of personal opinion in what I'm saying mind you, I just don't see the appeal.

Dragons Lair was pretty much a just movie with quick time events and it was awesome!
I really don't know how this is going to turn out. Indigo Prophecy was a neat concept but seriously flawed in certain areas, controls being one of them. If Heavy Rain turns out just being a super polished version of Indigo Prophecy then that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. It could be fun, but I highly doubt it's going to change anything.

The controls I could live with. It was the absolutely ridiculous shark-jumping near the end of the game that got me. And that's all I'm going to say.
