Okay, why does the guy have to go all spiderman just to flip the blocks? Doesn't he have, you know, a controller which has a button that flips them? Why can't you press that instead?
Also I was expecting this to be a game where you are in a room dropping blocks from a high place. Or maybe in a room getting crushed by giant tetris blocks. Now that would be first person.

That's an interesting concept!
Competitive tetris:
One player plays as a little guy, running around and climbing blocks in a first person view, attempting not to get squished, the other player watches from a side view while just playing regular tetris, attempting to squish the little person for extra points.
The ideal situation for the first person player to get into would be a little nook or something, caused by a hole in the wall. If such a situation occurs, the block dropping tetris-player has a certain number of blocks to eliminate the row providing a haven for the defensive player.
Or something!

Wasn't there already a Tetris like game where you also controlled a character climbing around on the blocks? Or am I just making things up from your idea?

I expected a block-mounted camera. You see down into the pit where you're going, but probably you can't see yourself.

I want a tetris game where you play the blocks looking out at the player playing as you fall down the screen. Then, you have to decide where to move to based on the reaction of the player controlling you, because you can't see below yourself.

I've always wanted to make a game like that! Except for that it felt a little obvious .

Maybe you're thinking off I Wanna Be The Guy? There was a Tetris level in there I think. Neat idea this, but the name is kinda misleading. I thought it was going to be something similar to that old 3D Tetris game on DOS. I made it to level 01. Whoo!
