Would you guys like some voiceovers ?

I was thinking of doing a set of samples, one or two words, for a little pack of em..

all great games have voice overs... it's a law of game, like Article 14: not game shall be-eth truly great unless it has voice acting, and good voice acting, bad voice acting ruins games, unless its really bad voice acting, in which case it is even more memorable...

Ive never really done anything like this before, so this is likely to be the later... I do "voice-acting" all the time as I am the storyteller in many a campaign over the years, so whynot ? as I start to relax, I get closer to something I'd feel comfortable releasing, besides, with all the filter I can run it through.. I can get some gnarly sounds...

so I have a few I came up with:

Ready ?
Go !
Congratulations !
Awesome !
 Try Again ?
Power-Up!

Death
Upper
Final
Burning
Flame
Crescent
Moon
Kick
Strike
Blade
Infinite
Ultra
Sonic
Rocket
Power
Frozen
Demon
Divine
Ward
Crest(of)
Mana
Crusher
Doom
Slayer
Wave
Combo!!!

Grunt, sigh, belch ?

Good Job
UH-Oh
Way to go
too bad
you can do it

I am the infinite...
Back to Hell, Demon
How foolish of me;you;them;all;us

*Maniacal Laughing*

"Hey, there now Jim Bob, you hold his arm n I'll get the chainsaw"

<no please....don't>

scream
hit
gaaahh!

gurgle

death sigh

last laugh

and I will take some requests, it will take me years to get all those in all the voices I wanna do... so I'll post them as I go...

so here is the first one:

a word of advice...

This is only semi-related, but in my experience w/ having voices in a game, in Alphasix, it was a lot of editing work, and it took a lot of time. But I think it was worth it, it added a lot to the game, I sometimes play the game just to listen to the voices (which were done by five online friends of mine).

If anyone wants to hear what they did, if you download the game, they're all in .wav format in /data/voices/.

We bought voice-overs via Voice123 for Harvest and it turned out quite good. I'll post a link to some of the voices when we're done with the post-production.

I think your voice is good, but you should move the emphasis a little. You say, "a word of advice - before we begin", which sounds a little stiff in my opinion. Try to remove the pause after "advice" (and the emphasis on "before"), so the whole sentence is said in a single breath.

Otherwise it sounds like a great idea. Looking forward to your recordings Smiley

Just here to say: OOFY POOFY NOPE!
All my favorite games has no voice acting:
Final Fantasy Tactics
Umm... what other non-indie games do I like...
Ogre Tactics
Advance Wars
X-Com
These all serve really bad examples because of limitations of the console or time period...
My point remains the same!

i always wanted to do voice acting.
a friend's mom used to run a talent agency from her livingroom.
so when id call to talk to my friend, she'd sometime pick up.
when i finally met her she said "oh, you're the guy withe the voice!"
and started saking me if i ever thought of doing voice acting. which i did.

i do a killer nathan explosion-like deep grunt voice.
especially when im drunk.

i need a hundred beers.

Voice-overs don't make games. In my experience they usually BREAK them. (90% of game voice-acting is bad voice-acting)

I've always liked the narrator in Crazy taxi. I always felt like the voice made the game better somehow... But I wouldn't call voice acting primordial to make a great game.

Katamari Damacy has the best voice acting Smiley

As long as you don't let Mark Hammil drink any...

I don't need to hear about how Harrison Ford stole his thunder all over again.

Actually Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle for the SNES had minor voice acting -- remember "Fight it Out!"?
