You control the traps in the castle. Mario-type traps like fireballs from lava, thwomp-like guys, spike pits, maybe dropping in enemies from pipes, etc. Difficulty increases as more heroes charge through, and some become smart enough to avoid the simpler traps. There's a potential for 2 player hotseat (one controls the castle, the other controls the heroes). I don't have time to make this, but I could draw pixels if someone else wanted to code it. Mockup:

I was actually brainstorming game ideas recently and pretty much this exact thought came into my head. Unfortunately I am unable to code it, but I would like to see this turned into a game.

I am suddenly tempted to make this. Unfortunantly I may be too busy coding two animation apps and possibly a Mini LD entry... :/

I gotta say looking at this it screams that it should be an iPhone game, think about it you could tap the traps to set them off. The core game is very basic so it'd run perfect on the iPhone, and...well...I dunno...I just really wanna play this on my iPhone?

This should have been a Gamma entry! Would have made for some excellent gameplay. In case of one player you control all the traps with one button, which makes for the actual challenge. If you miss with one trap you have to wait for all the traps to recover. In case of multiplayer every person controls one or two types of traps. For instance all the fire traps. Oh well .

Yes , in Zombie Master one player is a Demonic Overlord thing that spawns and controlls zombies , and lays traps for a group of survivors(other players). While the survivors see the game in a FPS kinda' way , the ZM(zombie master) sees it as a RTS , balancing resources and harvesting survivors

I may have to re-download it :D (all my friends stopped when L4D came out, traitors!)

The core game is very basic so it'd run perfect on the iPhone, and...well...I dunno...I just really wanna play this on my iPhone? If I had any idea how to use Cocoa I would make time to build this game, because you're totally right. The screen could be mapped so that tapping a trap would set it off. And it's simple enough to pick up and play, but would probably be challenging enough to keep people interested. Perfect for the iPhone. If you miss with one trap you have to wait for all the traps to recover. In case of multiplayer every person controls one or two types of traps. For instance all the fire traps. Oh well . This is a good idea too. I think a game like this would make a good Xbox Live game too, for multiplayer.

Hell if you can get a coder who's confident enough to do it, it may be worth looking into releasing a version on everything you can, simple game mechanics but addictive game play is what's made games like Bejewelled and I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMB1ES!!!1 so successful, so it's bound to catch on on one platform or another...although that's my optimistic side talking...
