If anybody happens to be in Tokyo on February 7, you should go check out the Chou Murigee event at Asagaya Loft (map here - it's a bar close to the Asagaya JR station on the Chuo-Sobu Line).

The event will be a presentation of the "murigee", a 48 hour rapid development contest organized mainly by Babara(geo).

It's going to be entirely in Japanese, but even if you don't speak the language it will probably be a good opportunity to meet Japanese game developers (flash and otherwise). Among the more well known devs who will be there are Babara(geo) and Neko Games (Hoshi Saga, Cursor*10). If I were to do some guessing I'd say that there will also probably be people from From Software (3D Dot Game Heroes) and I think Kazutoshi Iida (designer of Doshin the Giant, Aquanaut's Holiday) usually hangs out at these events.

The event is free of charge for game industry people - probably including indie devs but I'm not actually really sure, but if you flash a business card I guess it will be fine. Otherwise the entrance is 1500 yen, but you also get a drink coupon for that price.

Edit: sorry, not the 8th, the 7th!

Just a last minute reminder for anybody in Japan, since this is on tonight. Seems loads of interesting people will be showing up so if you're in the area, don't miss out!

Hey, thanks for mentioning this. I knew about Murigee, but didn't realise there was post-compo drinks / watching a panel go through the entries part. It was a good night. It works well limiting entries to flash too.. as the games are generally designed to be 5 minute concepts rather than something you want to bother downloading and finding a native cpu for.

For anyone curious, you can browse through past entries here: http://mogera.jp/ (allow popups). Apart from the dating sims and rpgs, it's pretty easy to guess what's going on in each game.
