If anybody happens to be in Tokyo on February 7, you should go check out the
Chou Murigee event at Asagaya Loft (
map here - it's a bar close to the Asagaya JR station on the Chuo-Sobu Line).
The event will be a presentation of the "murigee", a 48 hour rapid development contest organized mainly by
Babara(geo).
It's going to be entirely in Japanese, but even if you don't speak the language it will probably be a good opportunity to meet Japanese game developers (flash and otherwise). Among the more well known devs who will be there are Babara(geo) and Neko Games (Hoshi Saga, Cursor*10). If I were to do some guessing I'd say that there will also probably be people from From Software (3D Dot Game Heroes) and I think Kazutoshi Iida (designer of Doshin the Giant, Aquanaut's Holiday) usually hangs out at these events.
The event is free of charge for game industry people - probably including indie devs but I'm not actually really sure, but if you flash a business card I guess it will be fine. Otherwise the entrance is 1500 yen, but you also get a drink coupon for that price.
Edit: sorry, not the 8th, the 7th!
