You know what I think is really weird?  They decided to use a unused track from Sonic 3D blast as the boss music for Sonic 4.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL5qnQzvPlY&feature=related

It just sounds inappropriate for a boss.  The music was always fast and intimidating, this sounds like a carnival...

I mean, look at what replaced this track in 3D Blast, it's a great boss theme!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27p2P8MiEf8  That galloping bass line, goddamn.

People honestly let go of their direction when they did the spindash or jumped? I never did that in Sonic, ever. The only thing that actually seems stupid to me is how you can't build momentum in halfpipes while spindashing. The rest seems fine? Getting stuck on loops or ramps never happens during actual gameplay, come on.

Yep, all the time. Most of the time in fast sections I'm not holding the direction in the first place, just holding down to keep spinning, so I'd like to be able to jump without grinding to a halt for no reason.

The thing that annoys me most is that they proclaimed the game as this wonderful return to the roots, then clearly looked at the original physics and thought "nah we'll change it".

Also, the whole walking up walls and getting stuck at the top of ramps thing did affect me during my normal play during the sonic 4 demo. I mean, at one point I ended up going up a wall and round a loop the loop whilst sonic just did the slow walking animation. So totally mismatched from what the character was meant to be doing. I wouldn't excuse that in any game.

This I'll agree with. I don't think it will affect me much since I never did the whole letting go of the direction thing, but yeah, it's weird that they chose to do it like they did.
People are putting the blame on Dimps being the developer, but they DO know how to make a Sonic game that feels like the Mega Drive games. One look at Sonic Pocket Adventure proves this.

If you're spin-dashing, you usually continue to hold "down" instead of left or right, surely? This doesn't work in the new game...

I wanted to give SEGA and Dimps the benefit of the doubt, even defend them. I liked the Advance games (I even checked the physics and they are OK) and I see no problem on homing attacks (in fact, I think it's an improvement), I don't think uncurling is such a big deal (especially if compensated by homing attack) and I certainly don't see the point of complaining about Sonic's character design ...

... but why? Why!? Why are the physics so Where are the physics? You are not even able to roll downhill properly...

Ugh... even though I'm not that obssessed with Sonic, I am very, very disappointed. And so another Sonic cycle closes.

I have to give it to Sonic 4, I haven't been this entertained by Sonic 4 in a long time.  The cycle has turned in on itself this time, forming some sort of impractical fractal that laughs in the face of man and god alike.

I can't even say this is a bad game, and I can't say it's a good game.  But I think we can all agree that the stuff this game is capable of doing is absolutely hilarious.

The comments section of that video is why these games keep getting made.

I'll say you're a bad player to make the glitches look less bad, now I'll say that the programming is good and you're just nitpicking.

HEY SEGA, WILL YOU LOOK AT MY DESIGN FOR BUFF THE RHINOCEROS FOR THE NEXT SONIC GAME? I'M SURE YOU'RE WATCHING

Look on the bright side, at least it's not as bad as that port of Sonic for the GBA. At least we don't have to pretend that this one never happened.

I got round to trying it on the 360 last night and can see what people are complaining about. I spent a few seconds trying to jump at something I was standing next to but sonic just looks like he hits an invisible force field.

I actually think the game is pretty good so far. It does feel close enough to the old Sonic series to me that it is quite enjoyable to play. There are a few things that do bother me though namely the fact that the screen is zoomed in further than it needs to be, I don't know why they didn't just keep it zoomed out like the original games. Also, it is annoying that they slowed Sonic down a bit from the old series. All in all though, I think that this is a pretty damn good game, I have been having a lot of fun with it lately.

I tried the demo, I honestly think it's pretty much "trash." Everything screams CHEAP. NOTHING feels right here.

If you've never played Sonic I would say it seems a decent game (based on the demo anyway) but it's annoying if you are used to old school sonic.

Also in my last post I realised the forum converts \me into text the same way IRC does. (but use a forward slash).
