I think a great solution to this would have been (optional?) on-screen templates for the glyphs.

Another way would be if it just let you try again or if it at least wouldn't punish you by saying "You are doing it wrong" and then taking your color away and giving you a tree that's worse than most plants growing in the area and that you are stuck with till it runs dry.

I didn't feel it was grindy. It can be obscure in its mechanics, yes, but by the time I started the 'grind phase', several new developments started to happen that kept my interest.

Also, at least for me, when I draw glyphs wrong I don't lose the color I used, unless I did it right and didn't use enough color to make it worth it, like at the trees.
