Obviously not cave story, I mean, the backgrounds aren't even the same color.
Now if only cave story were to show up in something relevant...

That's a joke, yes? I'm no Photoshop veteran, but I'm pretty sure it'd take no more than 10 left mouse clicks and a shade of green to change the color of those tiles. I'm with Michael and Derek; it's cool to see indie outside indie, if you know what I mean.

Other than that, though, I dunno how cool I'd consider it. The disney crowd and cave story playing crowd arent exactly co-alligned, and a quarter of disney's audience is probably younger than cave story, so I doubt many people will get what it is. I suppose its better than nothing though.

Why so? In the comparison the room seemed to have the exact same shape. It is surely Cave Story You may argue it might have been photoshopped after the fact, but it is not too difficult for a Cave Story fan to slip the image in if all they need is a generic pixeled game image. Disney shows are for kids, but not made by kids.

I was just kidding, my point was that it was obviously cave story, beyond the point of disambiguation.

Ugh. What an awful comprehension failure. Anyway, even if few people get it, the ones who do will be really happy. It's very rare to find references of indie games in mainstream media, as far as I know.

I played the hell out of Heroscape with my little brother and friends a couple years back; my brother's spotted the game's tiles and characters in a couple shows and movies. It's cool to have those hidden, nerdy easter eggs laying around.
To be on topic: this is pretty cool.

Cave Story is on Nintendo now. Is it really still Indie?
Speaking of which, maybe I should pick that up. I finished Megaman 10, and really I want to encourage more people to make quality platformers on the Wii...

Platform doesn't determine if it is indie or not....

No, it is not. Now that it will defy its own origin, reality will collapse around it to a point Cave Story will never have existed. We will be lucky if the backlash doesn't make Pixel disappear too. Seriously, now. Cave Story will be published on a Nintendo plataform, but it isn't the same as being dependent of a big publisher. It would be rougly the same to say the "indie-ness" of a game published on Steam is questionable. As far as I know, Nintendo is very strict(this is an understatement), but being on the Wiiware doesn't make any game less indie. Sometimes I question the indie-ness of some games(well, at least one), but I don't see anything wrong with Wiiware Cave Story.

Ha, I wasn't really being totally serious, guys. To me you're Indie until you start saying "It should star a robot because statistics show those are popular in the 12-24 bracket" instead of "Hey, robots are cool. Let's make a game about one.".

I for one am happy to see more inherently console-style indie games on, y'know, consoles. Playing platformers on PC always seemed wrong to me anyway, in the same way that playing FPSs and strategy games on console seems wrong. Not that that's stopping me from doing these things, but I still see the PC as more of a temporary "exile" for 2D platformers until they return to consoles full force.

Until somebody invents a way for people to freely distribute their games on consoles for anyone to play like in computers, I don't think that's fully happening.
