Newton vs The Horde

I had issues figuring out exactly what was going on at first. I got the hang of it fairly quickly, but I lost interest fairly quickly as well. I felt like I could experience the whole game in the first few levels and everything past that point would be pointless. I would have suggested making the levels ramp up with its features rather than expose them immediately.

The menus playing the theme are a neat idea. When you select something it plays the whole theme, which I would probably change since it makes the novelty of the menus have a lower impact.

I also like the level of polish.

I noticed that. You might want to go the way farbs did in the original fishy fishy (and many others games probably), where instead of having levels in this order.

Style.Difficulty
1.1
1.2
1.3
2.1
2.2
2.3
etc.

do
1.1
2.1
3.1
1.2
2.2
3.2
etc.

That way your difficulty curve is constantly going up (instead of rise/collapse) and each level feels like a new experience.

I see what you mean but it is constantly going up. I'm not saying the difficulty curve is perfect. The game was made in a month after all, but 4-X levels are much much harder than 1-X levels. The 1-X levels are all just tutorials really.

Hey Zenorf, we used to work together at Atomic Planet! I played this game without realising it was yours!

I quite liked it, although I didn't seem to get the hang of setting up traps. It just seemed to be easier to hit them with Old Spice directly, most of the time.

Unfortunately, my own game failed due to a MU pulling crash Tongue , but I should be re-submitting on Friday. I've added gravity affect to the particles - they look nice being sucked into the black hole.

Okay, I've resubmitted my game now after fixing the MU crash bug. I've also added credits and the previously mentioned gravity-affected particles. If you'd like to review it, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Phil.
We try not to mention A.P.E. these days.

On the trouble with controls issue. We're well aware of that. Play test totally failed us in that respect and we can't release the update till after the competition finishes. Those are the rules. Not the official rules. The extra rules that were posted in a non sticky thread on the forums  Shrug
We'll release a new version if and when we are allowed.

timed MU pulling is an ongoing community argument. You best search on the forums for the catch for it that they recommend.

Sorry I haven't been around to review any games. Will try to take a look at it later tonight or tomorrow.

Hello everybody.
I'd just like to ask if anyone would be kind enough to peer review my game.

Newton Vs The Horde.

It's just an update and has passed previously but whenever you update you need to go through peer review again.

Would be happy to return the favour if anyone needs their title peer reviewed.

cheers to anyone that would oblige.

Thanks Dugan. Up at 50% now. Appreciate it.

I voted for it.

Thanks to you and anyone else who voted for us.
The update addresses the issue of some people having trouble with the controls and figuring out how to do stuff. It also adds another 4 levels.

Yeah it's nice, but not without issue. The money goes a good way to help fund our next project. Hand Money LeftSmileyHand Money Right

To be honest during the competitions mid stages we got very frustrated with the system. The people were very helpful but the system annoyed me something chronic.
  • The rules of the competition changed a couple of times.
  • We had to rely on the peer review system to get games ready for the finals but prior to that our game had sat in Community playtest with no-one touching it for a week.
  • Some extra unofficial rules were hidden away in a non stickied page 3 forum post so at first we were allowed to release an update and then we weren't until after the competition.
  • Then they decided that the voting was only going to take place in US and Canada.

Obviously it all worked out in the end for us and Microsoft are working to make sure things run smoother next time but the version in the competition was pretty much the beta in the end.

On that note. Are people managing to get their free codes ok? That's why I'm wanting to get the new version rushed to release, so people picking it up for free get the best version.

"Old Spice is giving away free game codes to the first 8,000 people who visit the Old Spice page on Xbox LIVE Marketplace."

In a couple of months we'll be able to reduce the price to 80MS points anyway but free is better than dead cheap so go grab it now if you can.

Hihi,

Could someone with a non-widescreen NTSC screen check out Fishie Fishie Fifty? I'm worried that my anti-letterboxing code might only work on PAL, but I have no way to test it.

Any other feedback would be awesome too.

FFF is now up for peer review. Can anyone spare a moment to check it out?

EDIT: I had offered to review/playtest in exchange, but apparently I'm not supposed to do that. Sorry.

Linky.

I'll take a look later.

Also, your screens won't work for those without XNA Creator club accounts, or if you have one and aren't logged in.
