A question to the people who have tried the 3DS: Does that mean you have to hold it in a certain position to be able to see the 3D effect? And if so, does the image look blurry or screwed up if you don't look at the screen from the "right" angle?
To elaborate on what others have said, it seems like you have just a few inches of leeway before it starts getting wonky. Once it's off, it looks like you are looking at a 3D movie without polarized glasses on. (So.. pretty awful)

Hey guys, do you think the 3DS is expensive at $249.99 USD? Try living in Mexico, it'll be $502 USD I'm definitely importing, this is freaking ridiculous.

Steel Diver, the only game I was really looking forward to, isn't coming out at launch in Euroland.
Fuck.

I'm somewhat torn. On the one hand, I would really like to get my hands on the 3DS. It's going to be significantly more powerful than the DS, and I love my DS. The 3D might not be significant to games, but it should be interesting at least.
On the other hand, I was considering getting one at launch to supplant my old-as-hell original grey-brick DS. But all the early appraisals of the system clearly state that it isn't a very good replacement for older models. Scaling original DS carts results in undesirable pixel warping, while playing at the original resolution results in a significantly smaller viewing area. Picking up a DS Lite would probably be a better (and more affordable) replacement for my outdated DS.
I guess we'll see.

Picked one up along with Street Fighter and Samurai Warriors today. I'm liking it so far, but I have to say I found the 3D effect more detrimental to the games than anything. It hasn't even been half a day and I'm already having it turned off most of the time.
Sure it enhances depth perception but having an additional axis to focus on means you'll inevitably concentrate on a small portion of the screen rather than the whole thing, a bit like tunnel vision. Developers making games for the 3DS will have to design them with that in mind if they want the effect to work.
Oh yeah and Samurai Warriors is lots of fun, game journalists are idiots.

Really? Because I still can't decide which game I'm getting and Samurai Warriors looks decent.

If you like that sort of game it's a blast. All the reviews I've read so far consisted of the same tired complaints that have been lobbed at the Warriors series by "western" journalists for years ("hurf durf button masher "). I'm suspecting reviewers usually play games on the lowest difficulty setting so they can get through them faster.

Oh and another thing about the 3DS: The Start/Select/Home buttons suck balls. What were they thinking?

Loving it so far, worth every penny. Not done enough serious gaming to comment on that side of things. The onboard software is great though, especially Face Raiders which had me grinning like and idiot and laughing out loud.
The multitasking stuff is great. Liking the friends system, though it'll be nicer if they add messaging and photo sharing. The notification light blinks orange to tell you that someone has come online. Feels like they've put thought into how the system works, to the point where it's far better put together than the Wii, let alone the DS.
I did the shooting AR game, it was fantastic except the light conditions are a bit low and it lost track of the card occasionally. I think that stuff will be only feasible during the daytime.

Anyone want to play some Street Fighter 4 sometime? I'm pretty shit at it though.
4596 - 9442 - 7695 if anyone's interested.

The best part about Face Raiders was that it recognized my face as a baby's. Also, what multitasking? From my experience, you can't have multiple "apps" running at the same time. When I select a new app, it quits the one I'm currently running. Or am I doing something wrong? It also sucks a bit how pressing the power button brings up a menu that can only be operated via the touchscreen. Let's hope they change that in a firmware update.

If I were to get a 3DS, I'd probably not buy much of anything save a couple racing games. I can't think of anything else that the 3D effect would benefit substantially.
Also: is the 3DS able to play 3D regular DS games with a 3D effect?

Well no you can't multitask everything, but you can check friends lists, take notes, take photos, browse the internet (when it's available), so it's not bad.
Nope, DS games aren't in 3D. Just upscaled to the new slightly higher resolution, unless you hold start + select or something along those lines.

Great, thanks for the hint! DS games look incredibly blurry in upscaled mode. Also, what Madk said about racing games true. I actually bought a third game, Ridge Racer, along with my 3DS and the 3D effect works really well with that. There's still the problem of having to hold it at the right angle though.
