Why is this bad news? Because people would be irresistibly compelled to buy alk three the second they hit the shelves and would end up selling their blood and hair for rent money? Seriously, help me out here.

3DS games are almost $75 USD in Mexico, and no, I can't afford NOT buying any of those. I'll have a Mario overdose this August.

Gamestop/EBGames, if they don't know the release date for a game or only have a release date like "Q3", will regularly just pick an arbitrary date in the future and pile up a whole bunch of games on that some day (because their computer system needs some sort of release date for people to preorder against). I remember with the DS they took all the demos shown with the original DS E3 unveiling and assigned them all a date in mid-march 05, and those games were still listed on their website for ordering until just a few days before the imaginary date (including a Sonic game that was never released). Probably August 2 just happens to be the first Tuesday in Q3, so at some point they just went down the line of announced 3DS games that didn't have release dates and punched in August 2 for all of them as a "Q3 or later" placeholder.

This...kind of strikes me as your fault, rather than Nintendo's? I dunno, I've never been one to really buy more than one game at a time (unless there's a promotion on), particularly if it's something (like Paper Mario) that requires a significant investment of time and attention. I'd rather buy one, maybe two games, and play them a bunch, and pick up another when I'm done (or at least getting tired) - by which point it's probably dropped a few quid anyway.

@mcc: most likely. Mario games are huge sellers, releasing 3 of them at the same time would result in cannibalization. @Toom: of course it'd be my fault, but really, I don't know which game I'd buy first Mario platformers are my favorite games, the Paper Mario trilogy is one of my favorite gaming trilogies ever, and I still play Mario Kart DS, Wii, DD! and Super. Fanboy dilemma.

Got a 3DS today. Still trying to adjust to the 3D screen. In some things I'm hard pressed to see the 3D effect at all, in others it's just eye-hurty, and then from time to time it'll do something that just looks incredible. The first time it looked like that for me was during the AR stuff. I'm really impressed by that. Actually, I'm kinda impressed by all of the features. Confession: most of the time when Nintendo release a new thing it just seems gimmicky to me - I didn't get the appeal of the DS at all to begin with (although it grew on me), and the Wii still seems bizarre to me despite its massive success. With the 3DS, for the first time with new Nintendo hardware, I get it. The 3D is cool (although it'll take a while for the software that uses it to settle down), the AR is super-cool, and I reckon the stuff like StreetPass is going to turn out to be a really big deal.

Has any of you had noticed loose hinges or error messages? I've been reading a lot of these cases, I'm afraid I may be unlucky enough to import it (so I don't have to pay $502 USD) and get a bad unit I went through two hinge-cracked DS Lites and a normal DS with a stuck pixel.

One guy at work got one that popped and died. Then he got a new one and the screen fell off, though that had been previously opened so it seems like someone had dropped it and returned it, or something (either way the shop shouldn't have been selling it as new).
But! I know at least 10 other people who have one and those are all fine.

Gotta have wireless on, and be in sleep mode (sometimes you can do it when not in sleep mode though), and you need to enable streetpass in whatever app/game.
I got one "genuine" streetpass on saturday, and two from 3DSs belong to game shops. But we're all getting four or five a day with each other at work, so that works out pretty well for blitzing through the puzzles and quest. Kind of a shame to not experience it with passing random strangers, as I imagine it was intended, but a 5 minute walk to work is unlikely to contain many 3DS owners.

I got my 3DS today! If I didn't live in a semi-rural area, I'd probably be pretty excited for Streetpass. *sigh* I got it along with Pokemon White, which so far is straight up awesome. The production value on this game, compared to previous Pokemon games, is totally off the charts-- I'm hooked. AR games and such are awesome, and I love the 3D effect. I wish I could turn my head and see different angles of the 3D view, like as if I was looking into a window. I'm sure it would be possible, based on: 1) front-facing camera to track head, 2) 3D perspective slider on the 3D picture view which let you look at the images from a different physical angle. So yeah, it sounds doable. Overall, I'm very impressed with the 3DS and I'm glad I bought one.
