I decided I'll wait for Dead or Alive. If someone told my 2010 self "hey 2010 rm88, 3DS launch will be so bad you'll wait for a DOA game before getting it" I would have cried But really, it looks kind of fun. I have only played DOA once and thought it was a weird Tekken clone. That's not that bad for me, though, I love Tekken so much I can live with a less awesome version of it. I have this exact same relationship with kart racers - I love them even if they never turn out better than Mario Kart. Anyone else getting it? My Lei Fang is so going to destroy you. Once I learn how to play DOA, of course.

I loathe screen protectors. There's always a bubble or a piece of dust stuck under them that you cant get out no matter how hard you try, and then you end up just scratching/smudging up the screen protector instead. I tend to be exceptionally careful when applying screen protectors. In this case, I was quite successful with my 3DS, and I don't have any latent dust or bubbles underneath. I'm very pleased with the results of these protectors, you can hardly even tell that they're present. I did a good job with my original DS, and still haven't had to remove those protectors. I've not had a problem with scratching a screen on my ipod or phone, so why get a screen protector?
The iPod uses a glass face, and is generally more resistant to scratches. That said, I actually have a screen protector on my iPod touch as well. When I purchase expensive handheld electronics, I don't feel comfortable using them regularly without something there to prevent their gorgeous screens from scratches.

Made even worse with the region lockouts. Is it that hard for a company of their size to do day and date or at least within a few weeks?
To be fair, that probably isn't entirely on Nintendo's head. The common delays for Australia could be due to the approval process your government has for games. Whenever you put a government body in charge of something like this, you have to expect delays. Economic pressures will insure that an industry-regulated rating system will at least be timely. When you slather the process in red tape delays are almost inevitable. I live in central Europe, there's no rating system in my country (apart from PEGI, which is handled by the EU) and the delays here are often the same as for Australia. I remember Animal Crossing DS coming out here almost a year after its US release. And besides, if it isn't Nintendo's "fault", why do other companies manage to release games almost simultaneously everywhere? I guess the real reason is that Nintendo simply cares less about the PAL region because their games are less popular there, perhaps related to the fact that console gaming is less popular and handhelds are still seen as "kids' toys" by a lot of gamers.

I used to be obsessed with my DS screens, I used exclusively imported HORI screen protectors because everyone was saying they were great. One day I stopped using them and my 2006 screens are just fine - not ~shiny new~, but still in really good shape. My brother's DS on the other hand... I blame his unhealthily long and intense sessions of WarioWare.

Yeah, WarioWare was basically designed to destroy your touchscreen.

Isn't that because all Nintendo games comes out perfectly translated in 6 languages?

I tried it for the first time So, really late impressions: Circle pad: this thing is awesome. D-pad: kind of clicky and it takes some time to get used to it being so low, but still pretty good. Would have liked better a less clicky, Wii remote-like. Select/Home/Start: awkward, but functional I guess. L/R: again, too clicky. But work well enough. 3D: I found that I enjoyed much better with the slider set at the middle, really nice, I'm looking forward to it in future games. Still, I'll play most of the time with the 3D off because of the battery. 2D DS games: blurry indeed, but the colors were okay and I don't think it's as awful in full screen as some have said. Circle pad works great for DS games. So yeah, I want one. I'm getting one as soon as Dead or Alive gets released later this month. Also, the blue one looks fantastic, but now I'm starting to doubt if I want one instead of a black one.

I will likely get one after the price drops and a couple more interesting games come out. So far the only thing I'd want to play on a 3DS is pilotwings and the built-in stuff.

Yup, the circle pad is great. I didn't think it was possible to make analog controls feel this good on a handheld. Wish they had included a second one under the ABXY buttons though.
I'm sort of interested in Pilotwings (I loved the first 2 games) but the idea of playing as a Mii and the "Wii Sports" visual aesthetics in general are a real turnoff for me.

It's interesting they're releasing all these fighting games on there. The DS had next to no fighters at all, let alone good ones. Though I heard the Bleach games developed by Treasure were pretty good.

Not played on the 3DS in a few days now, and that was when I was finishing Spirit Tracks. I was kinda hoping that more stuff would be coming out in the first couple of months. Still ages until the eStore as well.

Tried out a 3DS at a store once. The circle pad was pretty good (though it wasn't exactly very comfortable), the cross pad was low, but accessable, ABXYLR keys are same-same, and the screens are very small. Smaller than my original NDS, I dare say! The 3D actually works pretty well on just barely 3D. Pilotwings 3D was the game.
I'd actually kind of like it, but the batter life is the biggest turn-off. Then again, three hours is my NDS's battery life now.

You don't have to wait until then to figure that out.
