Meh. It'll be just another RPG. Nothing special....over-the-top violence and male stereotypes....That's all there is to this franchise.

Lol @JackieJay

Still, God of War has never really appealed to me... I'm not really too into action games, other than Devil May Cry (I just love that because of the story and character designs). I was thinking of picking up the God of War games for my PS2 at some point, but I can never find the incentive to do so.

RPG

Crazy

I played GoW3. Here's my ultra-fast rundown:

- If you liked the previous ones, you should like this one.
- Graphics are obviously amazing.
- Gameplay is still fairly buttonmashy, with only minor improvements.
- Game puts 2 epic-styled bosses right at the beginnng areas of the game, and then the creators seem to lose most of their ideas, only having one more even slightly memorable boss before you inevitably fight Zeus (which doesn't look much better than when you fought him in GoW2).
- Game has some pacing issues, in part because of the uneven boss battles.
- Dive-bombing bat/harpies are still annoying motherfuckers (they love to pair them with medusas).
- Amazingly, the extra weapons are not all completely useless compared to the Blades. Not amazingly, 2 of them handle practically the same as the Blades. The other is the Cestus, which is the only weapon other than the Blades you'll ever want to use and upgrade.
- They managed to make Kratos even less likeable, if that was even possible. And it seems they expect you to feel bad about his plight.
- A specific cutscene late in the game can't possibly be taken seriously despite the dialogue taking place. You'll know it when you see it. Another has Kratos do his best RAEG face ever, and it looks hilarious.
- Ending manages to be a fair bit more interesting than I thought it would be, but nothing that you'll want to rave about.
- They still can't give the damn game some form of complete finality.
- The challenges you unlock after beating the game can be absurdly difficult, in part thanks to the glitchy arena where they take place.
- Other unlockables are meh.
- There is no New Game+, though managing to fully upgrade your stuff is easier this time around.
- Voice-acting is as usual superb despite the simplistic script. Even so Kratos often sounds silly in his RAEG fueled speeches.

Found this out when some friends and I decided to play through the game on Titan difficulty the first time around. It's not just bosses that are the major stopping points, either. At the end of the labyrinth, there is one certain area where they just decided to throw just about everything at you - for about twenty minutes. Killed all the minotaurs? Why don't you have SOME MORE MINOTAURS?

Yeah, that part was particularly infuriating because it had no checkpoints. Dying in that fight meant you redid all of it, and when you combine some of the most irritating enemies in the game that can be a problem.

At least Pandora can distract them a bit. How the hell does she manage to never take any damage even when pinned to the wall by 3 satyrs? I wanna know where she got her ninja powers.

This is actually one of the things I like about GoW. It's one of the very few games that let you play as a genuine bad guy. Not a bad-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold or a bad-guy-who's-actually-a-good-guy-in-the-context-of-the-story.

Other than that though, I prefer the new Ninja Gaidens and Bayonetta when it comes to these 3D beat'em up/hack'n'slash games. Ninja Gaiden is more challenging, has fantastically fluid controls and more satisfying gore, Bayonetta doesn't let you get away with button mashing, has a great sense of humor and references to other games etc.

Sad

That seriously makes me reconsider wanting to buy GoW3, especially with that $65 price tag here.

How much do they break up the action though? Because that's something I'm not very fond of, being forced to go from my adrenaline-rush button-mashing hypermasculine killing spree straight into pushing friggin' blocks around.

They do that, but they've always done that, so I guess they were going with tradition.

There's even a little obvious Portal homage, with a simple solution to progress, but a more complex one if you want extra stuff.

Nothing could be worse than the first one  - it had a crate escort mission.  I don't know how they made it to 3.

Now he uses piles of stones to stop spinning gears. and when in lack of stones, just use the captive breast-showing terrified girl you just found and get her killed crushed by the gears to keep a door open for a few more seconds. Grin

i loved god of war 3 but it did have a few problems.

-first of all, the final boss sucked compared to other final battles, it took me about less than a minute a segment of it to beat it and most of it was as button mashy as it gets.

-the last section (not gonna spoil it) had a little something in it that could've went going longer.

- hermes was a prick.  Gentleman
