It looks better in motion than the screenshots did. It could be pretty good.

from what they're showing in the video it looks good, but i'm not sure. there's a distinct whiff of "dumbed down for the ecksbawks generation" about it all. just a gut feeling.

God, you can totally tell they already ruined it:

-no true destructible terrain or true random map generation (tile based) by the looks of it,
-the units look straight out of gears of war (both operatives and some of the enemies),
-theres a gears-of-war-like cover system,
-scripted dialogue lines and what looks like cutscenes makes me fear for the randomization and non linear sandbox aspects of the game too,
-no true fog of war (huge gameplay element of the original).

It doesnt look too inspiring to be honest. They just had to go ahead and "modernize" it.

UFO Defense used a tile-based map generation system. There were also elements of cover (duck behind walls, stand to fire, duck again). There were also cutscenes for certain major events (like, for example, the destruction of the alien moon base).

As for the other bits, that's mostly a taste thing.

I'm mostly just disappointed that action points were removed Sad
