I can recommend Un Chien Andalou, Stalker, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Blade Runner...

I'm looking forward to see Cat Soup.

Have you seen Baraka? Supposedly the HD transfer is one of the best.

yeah, once during a class we saw koyaanisqatsi, and i lent all 3 movies of that director.
baraka i saw a couple of years ago somewhere.

those movies are nice, but i noticed their not so good for during a party on a beamer Smiley
they are like complex music, best enjoyed alone. i'd say

Speaking of complex music, I think Philip Glass's soundtrack is the best thing about Koyaanisqatsi, the rest of the movie didn't really blow me away.

Art films are the ones you can really get into after smoking a fine pipe of  Hand Money Left Wizard Hand Money Right

I don't smoke money or wizards, so I guess I can never watch art films.

Here's a good list, or a good purchase if you have $650 laying around.

So... alluring... but I don't have the money.
I've kinda been interested in Ugetsu for awhile too. I dig them traditional Japanese ghost stories.

400 Blows is great. Jules and Jim by the same director is also excellent.

Heads up: Hulu has a criterion channel which has some of these films up sometimes. LINK

This thread makes me think I need to watch more films. I'm so lazy though. :/ I have a copy of Ugetsu Monogatari sitting in its box, unwatched. Sad

Edit: More on topic... I wanna see the full version of Metropolis when it comes out. :D

I've seen one in a class and it was really bad, it was about two sisters (or were they just friends?) and they sort of have no life and then it's the 2nd world war and then they are boring people

hm am i mixing up two movies

there was definitely one that went in and out of "being in world war 2" to explain more or less what happened to their mother or something

maybe i am really am mixing them up. anyways the movie was (were?) french, from france
