Maybe I should start paying more attention to things.

I probably watch too many movies for my own good.

Until you own your body weight in DVDs there is no such thing as too many movies.

The Limits of Control was extremely boring, and I loved it.

Roy Andersson also makes some seriously awesome movies that you have to see; Sånger från andra våningen, and Du levande

I have no idea where I'd start if I was actually interested in watching these art films.

I have no idea where I'd start if I was actually interested in watching these art films.

Start with Coffee and Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch. It's film of conversation vignettes and nothing else. It's a film of pure subtlety. There's actually an awesome scene where Cate Blanchett plays two incredibly different characters and has a conversation with herself.

I suggest this because in college I used this movie to screen people to see if they really would be able to give "art" films a chance and people who couldn't stand this movie usually would never be able to sit through some of the more obscure stuff. Perfect for starting a pretentious movie clique who make inside jokes about Godard at parties.

I'm a huge fan of Jan Svankmajer; I've seen all of his major films and enjoyed every one of them.

Semi off-topic, but since most of them are art films, here's my current collection of video media. There's a handful on this list that I haven't seen yet, but plan on watching. Those highlighted in red are my favorites/highly recommended. Other favorites not appearing on this list would include Jacob's Ladder, Stephen King's IT, Pet Sematary, and pretty much anything by Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli.

I'm just going to chime in and say that people need to watch Tetsuo, it's really something else.

Not sure of the definition of art film but I would say Space Odyssey 2001 and couple Miyazaki films. At least those are movies I consider as art films.

Try the highlighted entries on my list, with the exception of the British comedies. I just highlighted those because they're "bloody brill"... Tenfold better than the shows we have in the US.
