LORD OF AUTOMOTONS

My problem is now is that my character is too strong and too rich. I have all the implants they'd allow me and I have guns and ammunition for me and my companion, that will last me virtually forever. Nothing really poses a challenge to me (except those goddamn cazadors who always sneak up on me). I put the game on Very Hard and it still is too easy. I guess I could start a new character, but I'm not really in the mood to start over just yet.

I had that problem with Fallout 3, as well as New Vegas. The only thing that poses a slight threat to me is that I'll waste my ammo messing around, until there's none left. I don't have to worry though, as companions can pull ammo out of there ass whenever, and can one shot most creatures.

I feel this is a Bethsoft problem though. All of their RPGs are brimming with loot (to the point where it becomes meaningless) and it's real easy to overpower your character, especially later in the game. They have difficulty slopes as opposed to curves.

I'm kinda disappointed Obsidian left Bethesda's approach to game design as unchallenged as they did. Even something as easy as not filling up every corner of the world with usable items could have gone a long way to make the game more challenging and more engaging.

I really hope with Bethesda and id Software under one roof, they take advantage of id's great engines. The Gamebyro engine really is shit for actiony games.

The only bug I've encountered with VATS is one that has carried over from FO3. I map VATS to right-mouse-button, but for some reason clicking it again once in VATS doesn't take me back out (as it should). I usually have to press E to get out of VATS, which is fine since I made a habit of it...

Though, in NV the aiming has improved so much that I hardly use VATS at all anymore. That said, they could probably scrap VATS altogether and make an online version of Fallout using this engine.

Fixed.

Also, Borderlands.

Borderlands was disappointing. But a Fallout 3/NV style game with co-op would be a dream come true.

I just got lucky at slots at the Atomic Wrangler and won a 16,000 caps jackpot. And my room at the Lucky 38 is starting to look like an episode of Hoarders and my character is carrying 35k worth of bottle caps. My character is a hoarder and a gambling addict.  Cool

I felt that Borderlands had some serious interface issues on PC. Maybe I was missing something, or it was the cracked version I was trying, but I found myself really annoyed at a lot of things. For example, when you had messages pop up on screen, all of the buttons in these message windows were hotkey-only. For instance, you had to hit ENTER to select OK instead of being able to simply click on it on-screen. This really bothered me, because my left hand plays on WASD and my right is on the mouse; I had to take my hand off the mouse every 5 seconds to hit ENTER and it just took me out of the experience every time.

Also, it just felt like a pretty generic FPS with some RPG elements tacked on. I'd much rather have a rich, detailed open world like Fallout's but with maybe 1 - 3 other human players that I may or may not ever see.

Borderlands was less about the world and more about how you scavenged for gear and decked out your character. I enjoyed it a whole lot even in single player.

I won't be picking this up. Loved Fallout 3, but money doesn't grow on trees, and I don't feel like paying 40 squids for a broken game.

Which makes it the inverted FO3. Giggle

No, but in all seriousness, I think Fallivion sucks as an FPS. It's not even about aiming, it's that the guns don't feel good to use. I can't even put my finger on it but I just don't find it any fun. Also, the RPG  damage system doesn't mesh with the FPS mechanics. The enemies are all bullet sponges and combat relies too heavily on stats for an action game. So no, unless they fix those things, I wouldn't want to see VATS go.

Speaking of VATS, I think that could be vastly improved if it was more of a Bioware-style "pausable realtime" sort of thing and not slow-mo cheat mode.

Play New Vegas. Like I said, the aiming/damage is so much better now that I rarely ever use VATS anymore.

I'm currently playing NV and I've tried not using VATS. Sorry, but I still don't enjoy it. I have noticed that enemies don't take 500 headshots to die anymore though, so that's an improvement.

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as some kinda raging troll, but the two original Fallouts are among my favorite games of all time and I'm still holding a grudge against Bethsoft for what they did to the series with FO3.  Concerned

Haha I know. When FO3 came out I swore to myself that I wouldn't succumb to nerd rage (hell, despite what I've been saying I actually enjoyed the game a fair bit), but it frightens me how close my opinions are to those of the NMA guys these days.  Cheesy

You have a 0% hit chance on all body parts when you try to attack an invisible Nightkin. Maybe Core mistook that for a bug.

Now you're insulting me.

Speaking of VATS, I think that could be vastly improved if it was more of a Bioware-style "pausable realtime" sort of thing and not slow-mo cheat mode.

I was just thinking that. Because the transition from real-time shooting to VATS and back is pretty bad. You just can't instantly resume aiming properly after the VATS scene(s) when the enemy is running straight at you. You better kill them in VATS or they're in your face when you come out of it.

In fact for my next character, I thought I might ignore VATS altogether and go traditional FPS style. At least then it'll be consistent.

I usually hold right click when VATS is about to finish with it's thing, so after it is over I'm usually (well, at least half of the time) aiming right at the enemy when it's over.

But then yeah like you say, most of the time they're right in your face. Which is my main gripe about this and the last game, enemies just rush you completely or run away, hardly any thing in between. Much like the AI in Deus Ex.

I think the delay at the end of VATS is supposed to be a deliberate drawback that sort of acts as the enemy's turn. I just really wish it would stay in first-person so you could tell what's going and and plan your next step rather than making you clickclickclick as VATS ends and hope you're still aiming in the right direction.
And why is it that even though I turned off kill cam I still get kill cam shots?

I've been getting this weird thing and I'm not sure whether it's a bug or something I've overlooked: lately in the middle of combat I'll suddenly get a cateye effect that hangs around for a few minutes and eventually wears off like normal, exactly as if I'd used a cateye in the middle of the fight. It's annoying.

I don't know what the cateye effect looks like, but perhaps you have a concussion? Is your head crippled? Or maybe you're addicted to some drug (possibly cateye)?

Pretty sure it's not any of those things. Cateye is night vision, and it gives everything a washed-out blue tint. Next time it happens I'll check my status...  I thought it might've maybe been related to a perk that I could've selected by misclick or something like that but it hasn't happened again for a while. I saw someone on another board mention it so I'm thinking bug.

Does the night vision perk turn the screen all blue like cateye does?? If so, I'm glad I didn't pick it... I honestly don't find that helpful at all...

Also, I tried to play tonight for about 20 mins, encountered some SERIOUS bugs for the first time... For instance, my NPC follower kept repeating the SAME LINE every 15 seconds. Not kidding, I actually counted.

Then, I alt-tabbed out of the game (dunno if that had anything to do with it) but when I got back I was KILLED INSTANTLY IN ONE HIT by an enemy, and I'm pretty sure I had full health...

I just beat it. I felt Fallout 3 was better. New Vegas didn't really take me anywhere.
