They could have at least done a Skype interview or something.
They're trying to make a movie. It isn't meant to be a series of interviews.

If they don't put a Robert Pelloni cameo in it, I'll be sad.

You'll love the part where they do a drive-by egging of his house, then.

Hipster friends of friends of circlejerk, that's what it is and that's how it will appear to most people. Nowadays, almost everybody is an indie develloper, there are dozen of thousands of people develloping for ios, flash, XBLA or whatever. But most of these people are not used to getting camera filming them 24/7 listening to their every whiny complaints like they were the new buddha or sthg. This movie would have been acceptable in 2006, today it will just get insults and ridicule.

THE NORTH AMERICA
Why would they get out of North America for interviews when it's such a happy continent?

The movie is now about four people's personal stories. The impression I get is that it makes a larger point about what people working on creative projects go through to realize their vision. One of the neat aspects to this is that it may demonstrate to a general audience that indie games are as valid a medium as film, novels, etc. i.e. People care about them a lot, and go through some shit to make them happen.
I'm not sure what a movie made to showcase every notable indie game developer, resorting to recorded Skype conversations and phone calls would look like. If the goal was to represent as many indie developers as possible, would it be a compelling film for general audiences? It seems like each developer would get 5 minutes of screen time and we wouldn't learn much about their personal stories. Trying to get your mom or your grandma to watch that might be difficult.

imo the movie's main problem is that the presentation is inappropriate for the subject matter. Corny orchestral music and dramatic post-processing might be fitting for a documentary about scientists working to find a cure for cancer or sth, but not for a doc about people who make videogames. It also perpetuates the cliche that indie devs are "pretentious hipsters" more than it makes a convicing argument for "games as art."
All judging from the trailers of course.

I don't think that's the main problem.

A buddha would know better than to whine and complain about their suffering.

Are you saying that you shouldn't use bells in music? Because if you are then let me inform you of how dead wrong you are.
