To be honest, I gave up after the second episode, out of confusion you see.

(But I hear good things about it, all my freinds love it)

Character-wise I thought it ended perfectly but like a lot of people I was disappointed with how convoluted they let the island side of things get and then left it all unanswered.  I'm wondering if they really did intend it to end the obvious way people predicted it to be at the end of season 1 (with the island being purgatory) and had to completely rework it.  Same thing with Jacob and the Smoke Monster, everyone figured they were good and evil personified but they made them mere humans... was that really their intention all along?  The Light?  The Mother?  That stupid stone plug?  Felt like total copouts for a lack of competence for properly wrapping up the story.

Like I said, I like how they did the sideways universe story line.  Desmond's non-chalant attitude on the island and there makes sense (and everyone else's attitude once they "remembered").  The copout on the island stuff was apparent when Desmond said it didnt matter if the smoke monster or Jack died or if the island sank, it all ends the same anyway.  I really like how some of the characters in the sideways universe were outward projections of themselves before they made their connections with everyone else on the island.  Especially Jack creating a son for himself because of all the daddy issues.

Overall I did like the finale but not having stuff answered kind of sucks.  The show did get stupid in some periods (seasons 4-5 IIRC had few good episodes) but it was such an amazing experience to judge solely on the final episode.

I never watched Lost, and I have a summer job with absolutely no brain work needed, do I need to watch Lost?

L O S T was always about the journey, not about the ending, and deep down we all knew the ending would never meet our expectations, but we watched it anyway, because we all liked the show, no matter how bad it would end. And yeah, it ended pretty badly; Nobody likes Deus Ex Machina plot devices.

AND I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL THE ISLAND WAS ABOUT.

It was mentioned very briefly that it was either
a) hell
b) the gateway to hell
c) purgatory

There are a ton of theories you could throw out there, like (mine): Oceanic flight 815 crashed and there were no survivors. They were all sent to purgatory in which they had to solve a bunch of puzzles/trials and discover their inner strengths and weaknesses before they were really at peace and could go to heaven.

I think the polar bears were the aliens.

And that whole deal with Charles Widmore was just a huge cocktease after all. I swear to god J. J. Abrams hates people and this is his way to get back at the world.

Right, everyone and their mother had a similar theory after just one season and I think that after planning that obvious ending from the get-go they couldnt just go with it but never quite figured out another answer to the island.  I honestly would have preferred that they kept some of the obvious stuff over what they did with the island.  Like it being some sealed gateway to hell and Jacob and smokey being good/evil, God and the Devil, etc.  There were no real surprises on the island side of things anyway, all the twists were in the alternate universe.

I couldn't watch Lost for long, because I think it just isn't good when obviously, as was said before, not even the writers have a clue what all the stuff is about that they invented, and they go on to weave more and more undefined details into it.

From what I've heard, it sounds like Lost ended in much the same way that A Series of Unfortunate Events did.

I don't even know what to say. I used to love this show for the first four seasons - five wasn't as good, but still above average -, then they completely jumped the shark on sixth. The penultimate episode had given me some hope that this would be decent, but the "alt-timeline" resolution was outrageous. What the hell happened here? Everything up to now had indicated that they were two timelines that were about to merge, possibly with awesome results, but apparently they were pretty much just bullshitting us. Surprise! It's actually a lame allusion to religion and has nothing to do with the story.

Plus all the unsolved mysteries and enormous plot holes. It's clearer than ever that these guys had no idea what they were doing.

So much wasted potential. rant rant rant.

I saw the first two point five seasons a few months ago. So, it pretty much gets even more convoluted and confusing, then ends without doing a great deal to resolve it?

Man I loved Lost. I thought the finale was great up until the very end.

I was digging how in the flash sideways they were all starting to remember, and how Desmond has this crazy scheme.

but then it was said.
"You are dead"

after that I was like  Big Laff

that seemed like such a cheap way out. like they couldn't think of anything so they went uhhh err well let's just say they are dead then have them go to heaven together.

@MindEraser  It did seem like they died at the plane crash because they had the clips in the credits of the crash with nobody around but I don't think that is right.

only because of the convo that Hurley and Ben have about being good partners. This is right before going to heaven so working together must have really happened.

basically I think everything but the flash sideways really did happen. and the flash sideways was the purgatory. by remembering they "let go" of the past and are able to move on to heaven.
