I saw the first two point five seasons a few months ago. So, it pretty much gets even more convoluted and confusing, then ends without doing a great deal to resolve it?

That summary was awesome. I'd seen seasons 1 - 4 and stopped half way through 5 I think. It just kept getting worse.

ok, watch that summary. every interesting thing that happened.... it was meaningless.

NONE OF IT ADDS UP TO ANYTHING.
NONE.

Another strong case for the writer's equivalent of a code review. Before submitting a final script, another writing team in the same studio should criticize the shit out of their work. Any "WTF are you guys thinking" responses mean go back to the writing block. Seriously would've saved this ending and Star Wars.
I blame that stone plug. I think less people would be raging right now if the only answer we got was what the "light" was other than apparently some evil airhole for the island.

Aside from the religious undertones I thought this was a great finale. I don't think the questions that went unanswered are all that important in the grand scheme of things.
Lost has always been about character development and the weird shit that those characters go through. Both those things were present in the finale. I can't think of a single question that I would have been better off knowing the answer too.
When you explain too much you risk killing what made the mystery enticing to begin with.

I've not seen one episode of Lost. I was planning too because Hiroyuki Sanada was supposed to be a character in this last season but then I found out they killed off his character and I scoffed it off. Should I still consider watching it anyway? Or at least parts of it?

Are unanswered questions really that big a deal? I dunno I just don't get it.
The writers have been saying since the beginning of the season that they wouldn't answer everything. God forbid we have to use our imaginations a little and extrapolate things for ourselves.

I liked the ending.. not the best ending ever, but good enough to me. Yep, there were a lot of unanswered questions, I bet a lot of them were just left aside because the writers changed their mind during the series or had problems with the actors, or simply forgot about the thing.. but most of those were minor things.. For all the important questions, enough material was given for you to think, discuss and get to your own conclusions.. LOST was always about making you think about theories and discussing it like it's being done here, why would the ending be different? AND I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL THE ISLAND WAS ABOUT.
That's ok, I dont think the writers know either. It was mentioned very briefly that it was either a) hell b) the gateway to hell c) purgatory There are a ton of theories you could throw out there, like (mine): Oceanic flight 815 crashed and there were no survivors. They were all sent to purgatory in which they had to solve a bunch of puzzles/trials and discover their inner strengths and weaknesses before they were really at peace and could go to heaven. The island was real.. the alternate universe thing was some kind of purgatory where they were able to fix their personal problems before they could go to heaven/hell/whatever.. my theory is that Hurley used his Jacob powers to allow that to happen somehow.

I'm all for extrapolating but you can only take that so far. The most annoying thing was not explaining the "heart of the island" yet showing that stupid hole and plug down there. I would have been much happier with Jack and Desmond going down there and them not showing us what was going on. Like the video Fish linked said, there were a ton of unanswered questions but the big one was definitely the explanation of the island's energy. I honestly dont care about the rest of the answers, I am fine with extrapolating those. My problem is that even the writers seemingly had no clue how to explain it so they opted not to.

I liked Lost when it was just a bunch of people trapped on a mysterious island with the whole sci-fi dharma initiative thing going on.
When they got off the island and then that alternate universe bullshit and time travel and stuff it just went downhill all the way to the end until it took a nose dive down a sinkhole and the writers decided the best ending would be to just throw the whole cast into a church and call it a day. Ugh.
Don't even get me started on the horrible, obnoxious violin crap that played in every damn scene in the finale. I wanted to stop watching from the moment it began but I kept hoping for some kind of coherent conclusion. Guess not. In fact, I hated the violin music more than the lack of a proper ending.

tru dat.
dharma was good times. everything around it was some of the best mysteries. mysteries that were satisfyingly explained. everything about the dharma initiative came into place. it was great, so much of it built that awesome lost aesthetic. all the fake styrofoam temple sets looked awful and stupid. but the hatch was awesome 70s retro futurism all the way. and that sweet blue van. so iconic.

Thing is, the previous seasons were a mesh of technological conspiracy and vague mysticism, with a cast of thousands and some mind-bogglingly clever twists of storytelling.
The last season was like a half dozen dudes trekking endlessly through a forest.

I have to admit. Dan was one of my favorite characters because his physics was so interesting to me.
I liked that part of Lost a lot

That summary video did it for me. I've missed so much... and yet I've missed so little. The last season was like a half dozen dudes trekking endlessly through a forest.

Daniel Faraday represent.
One thing I'll say about the finale that I didn't like. Daniel deserved a better than he got.
