I just started playing Battlefield Heroes, it is a quite simple FPS, a copy of the Battlefield series, its pretty fun, the more you play it you can earn point to buy weapons for a limited time and also clothes and powerups, its very entertaining and I recommend it, besides it is free.

Another game like that one is Warock, its another battleflied clone, very good and free.

Long ago I used to play an awful rpg game like WoW, you had to level your character so much, and I kept playing it because it looked great and was hoping it was going to get more fun the more I played it, it was a waste of time...

Anyway, do you play any free MMOs?, do you have any game to recommend?.

For the longest time I was into Kingdom of Loathing. The thing I liked most about that game is that the game devs are really active and open with their community (they do two radio shows a week, and like to talk about game design and random dickery with equal gusto). It's more of a single player game with some vague multiplayer elements and a really strong community, but the whole thing is enjoyable and free with non-essential donation content for fun.

I highly recommend you at least take a look. The limited adventures per day ensure it won't suck up more than half an hour per day unless you're silly and make multiple accounts.

I basically swore myself to never play MMORPGs for extended periods again, unless one comes around which is actually radically different from the standard grindy ones with only "functional" stories. But, I've heard that for a free game, Runes of Magic is a very good World of Warcraft clone. Allods Online seems to take a similar approach, but I've also heard quite a bit of praise for that. Atlantica Online is supposedly not that good all around, but it's apparently still liked for the turn-based strategy combat akin to the Heroes of Might & Magic series.
Rather different, but still pretty nice is the Defense of the Ancients clone League of Legends. I actually had a lot of fun with that one, and there are MMO elements with leveling up your whole account for some minor but general upgrades, and you gain an ingame currency even through playing for free, with which you can then permanently purchase heroes, which otherwise rotate weekly in availability or cost real money to buy.

If you're looking for free shooters that aren't necessarily MMO-like, I guess you're better off checking out stand-alone mods and such. For example the highly popular Urban Terror, the somewhat realistic shooter True Combat: Elite and the western classic Smokin' Guns.

You seem to enjoy MMOFPSs. Team Fortress 2 is halfway-through becoming one. Wink

Not an MMO, but I used to enjoy S4 League which is a kind of action/sport multiplayer game where you have to grab the ball and push it to your opponents goal. There are swords, guns and special abilities to use to temporarily kill other players or inhibit them from getting the ball or moving it. It was pretty fun last time I played it, and now that I think about it and have verified that my account is still there, I think I might try it again. I think its at least worth a look.

Kingdom of loathing was really funny the first time I tried it a few years ago I think, very nice game.

I did browse through many FPS and decided to try Americas Army 3, and I am enjoying it so far, very different from Battlefield Heroes, it reminds me of Rainbow Six because of its realism.

The game I mentioned before is called "Silk Road Online"

I am also trying a game called "The Warlords", it's like Diablo, and you can capture npcs to help you in combat. You cant spend your experience points to make your character more powerful though, that's done through items.

The bad thing about many of this games is that you have to buy things to really enjoy it, specially in the case of "The Warlords" so far, I have been playing it quite a while and I still can't afford to pay anything.

Uru Live.

No battles, just exploring and hardcore puzzles.

I saw this before, and I liked Myst.

Is this just Myst with multiplayer? Is this something good to grab a friend and solve the puzzles together (as opposed to one player knowing the solutions already)?

Maybe I'll look up some youtubes of this.

I liked S4 League a lot. It's pretty similar to Battlefield Heroes, actually.

http://urbandead.com/ were a brilliant zombie apocalypse MMO in the early days. I haven't played it for years so I don't know if it still have the same charm.

But damn, to log in every day to support the barricades of Caiger Mall during the siege was epic. The game is almost a MUD, there is basically no graphics, but the fear is real when you face a horde of zombies.

Oh, crap, how can I forget Space Station 13?

http://www.byond.com/games/hub/Exadv1/Spacestation13

It's something I played for a while and wished would be updated with a more friendly interface. Basically, you play 30-minute to 2 hour scenarios where everyone gets a role in running a space station, like one dude is the engineer who gets the power systems up and another guy is the doctor who gets a medkit and heals people. Something bad always happens (like meteors strike, a mutant blob gets on the loose) and then you survive for as long as possible. Sometimes one player is given a terrorist objective, like to murder one specific player or steal a thing, and then they wreck havoc while everyone else tries to figure out the spy and stop them from winning. For something done up in shitty low-quality sprites and a hacked together interface, it has amazing depth. You can rewire doors so the AI (Played by a human, ironically) can't operate them, you can alter the DNA of other players to give them deformities or super powers, you can even beat somebody with a tool box, throw them in a locker, weld it shut and then launch them into space (although this is considered bannable griefing) or simply kill them then drag them into the kitchen to grind into hamburger to dispose of the evidence.

It's not quite an MMO (Once a game ends, it is forgotten forever and you start completely fresh) but it has way more roleplaying than your standard match based game.
