"The bridge collapsed during the storm last night . Come back later if you want to cross."
"My cart fell over in the Middle of the road! Man, this'll take forever to clear off!!"

Or whatever other arbitrary reason developers Give to keep you from breaking sequence.

Golden Sun (the first) had the best one of these ever.

"Oh, there are puppies playing in the road! Clearly we cannot go in this direction."

I noticed a nice subversion of bad game design in Crash Bandicoot: Twinsanity. At one point, a farmer tells Crash and Dr. Neo Cortex that he will give them a power crystal if they can get rid of the moles who are infesting his farm.
Then Cortex shoots him and takes the crystal.

Survival Horror games trying to scare you using the same tricks over and over again.. the first 2 or 3 times they might work, but after some time they get too predictable.

In Dead Space, for instance, you enter a room and see a corpse, after you push a button on the room or something, the corpse stands up and tries to attack you! It was cool the first time it happened, but after 2 or 3 times, I just started "killing" every corpse I found cause I knew the thing would attack me later.

The same thing can be said about monsters jumping from windows and vents.

Try to find more ways to surprise the player or at least don't give him enough ammo so he can waste it preemptively on corpses! Another survival horror mistake btw... if the player can easily get enough weapons and ammo to kill a small army, it's not really a "survival" horror.. is it?

Strangely enough, my friend was telling me the other day about Dead Space and he told me that after the first few times, there are no more 'fake corpses' until near the end, which was apparently done deliberately to make the player forget that it could happen.
