Guess the derail!
What will this thread inevitably derail to?
Guess the derail!
Or maybe it'll just die, I dunno, I got a headache.

If I'm replying to something above me in a popular thread, there's the chance more posts will be added between that post and mine- that's an instance in which I would quote like that.
But unless it's a quote of an excessively long post, why would it be annoying anyway?

What about posts that have nothing to do with any posts in the thread? I'm on to you, forum gnomes.

It's pretty obvious, that when you post, it's either in direct reply to the post above or it happens to be an isolated statement. It's almost insulting to read a post with the entire previous post in it as it suggests I'm too thick to impose a context on what I'm reading myself. So why the hell is post after post on this forum abusing the quote button? No other forum does this. Is this a running joke I missed out on?
You can save yourself a lot of effort by using carats to answer previous posts if you wish: ^
The number of carats equals the number of posts previous that you're replying to. It works on other message boards.
This. I hate when people quote someone and just say "this" much more than I hate people quoting the person above them
