Man, some of the bosses in the game have absurd amounts of HP (or aren't balanced for weapons below the laser)

Yeah, you want to get and use the laser asap.

Ruby Wall is a level I beat on one try, and that boss infuriated me.  It had so much HP, and you can only get like one shot in every 3 rotations of it's shields it seems.  Man, some of the bosses in the game have absurd amounts of HP (or aren't balanced for weapons below the laser)

Haaaa, YES! Did a flawless run of all 4 levels and beat the Bastard*. Used that Laser. Very pleased, yes.

Oh man, all out Galactic war. This gets better and better.

*And then died in the treasure room after it.  Embarrassed

Don't forget your "powers", Turri Wall etc. In the beginning I mostly forgot about using them, but by now I'm finding them more and more useful. For example the first Galactic Inferno boss, those two balls bumping around, can get pretty annoying if they only bump around in the left side of the screen all the time. But, after a well placed Turri Wall they're mostly destroyed, or are if you hit them a few times before that.

By now I'm just a little disappointed that weapons are indeed mostly upgrades. Since you can switch them between missions, I thought they'd be more balanced and the weapon choice would be somewhat tactical. But, it's not a big deal, as each weapon is useful for a while before the next one comes around.

Secrets remain in your collection when you've picked them up once, no matter if you didn't save afterwards or so, right? It looks like it and I'm currently trying to figure out if it's worth picking up one of them every time I retry the level, or if it's needless, anyway.

Hm, I'm still not really using them regularly, maybe should give it a try...

I think that's how it works, yes.

Waaaah the Meroptian Elite level is sadistic. Any hints for the fourth (!) boss in that one? The one that goes in circles really really fast? I hate him.

Stay in the middle and dodge like a madman!  Try moving in little circles yourself.  Maybe that's obvious, but the first few times I played him I tried hanging out in the corner for some reason.

Thanks.

I didn't get to Path of Scylla's second stage before. I didn't understand what you were all so excited about. Now I do Grin Damn eel-things.

So, when's Parodorah (WTF) coming? Durr...? More flying cat-pirate-ships would be sweet!

[edit]
Wow, I never knew that there is more than one Parodius, let alone five! Gotta try these..

Yeah, you get one more.  You start with 3, you get 2 for beating Galactic Inferno, and 1 for beating No Mercy, so 6 in total.

I downloaded this today. I'm really enjoying it... All 6 hours of the second level, haha. I'm ashamed. Normally I'm better at shooters than this!

Which weapons did you use to beat No Mercy? By now I can beat bosses 1-3 and 5-6 pretty much flawlessly, only the 4th one still gives me trouble if I don't use stealth and I haven't played the last one much, yet. I first used Vulcan, Scort and Stealth, but it seems apart from Vulcan's spread fire the laser has pretty much the same strength and is more accurate, so I'm using that. I guess some bombs could be useful for the 4th boss, but the Scorts are indespensible for me to survive #3 (the one firing blue lasers across the screen).

By the way, upon pressing Esc to retreat it takes 40 seconds until you are back in the No Mercy level and the first boss appears Sad Skippable "cutscenes" and the cursor being positioned on the last instead of the first level when loading the save would be so nice.

Strange, the fourth one is the one I had the least trouble with. Basically I made no effort to damage the boss most of the time and focused on staying alive by dodging and shooting the blobs, and stray shots managed to wear the boss down until it died.

I used laser/scort/stealth. The laser is way more useful than the vulcan against the last boss of No Mercy, otherwise it's a tossup.

Alright, finished the game now. Got all secrets (though I would've never found 3 of them without help), "Perfect"s up until the last level and a highscore of 1115370, if that's relevant for anything Smiley

Great game through and through, though for a major part it could have been called "Anger Management - The Game" in my case. I fully understand that repeating levels over and over again is part of the game, but I still couldn't help it getting frustrated many times. I guess the problem for me there is usually when I already figured out a very good solution to a level, but still died without at least feeling like I could have seen it coming.

Anyway, I still liked the experience a lot, and for someone like me, who mainly grew up with an N64 and a computer, this was a superb blast from the past. A painful blast.

Making of Hydorah

It's not very detailed, but it's a nice read Smiley

Very cool little featurette. More indie game devs should talk about the process behind the making of their games. Smiley
