Sign me up.

I'll have loads of time to spare after the next week. This week though will be kind of hard, but I'll try. Gentleman

Well, seeing as school just got out, and I could stand to get better...

IN!

Also, I could totally use some practice with my tablet.

Would have liked to be in, my sucky drawing skills sure needs work, but don't think I can be that reliable during the summer. Will try to join in as much as I can though! Gentleman

I may regret this (deadlines/assignments demotivate me for some reason), but i've been meaning to get back into drawing for ages and maybe this is just what i needed! I'm in.

FOREWORD:
Drawing the figure is really useful as an artist, it improves your ability to draw humans, obviously, and also requires you learn a lot of basic things like comparative measuring and observation. THUS, GOOD STARTING POINT. Hyperlinks are mostly to examples and related information.

ASSIGNMENT FOR WEEK 1:
Three of them, for this inaugural week! My Word! They're simple, though. Ideally, you won't spend more than 30 minutes on any one.

.zip of references for the challenges:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1581496/References.zip (8mb, 37 pictures)

1)Draw a neutral pose (standing is better than sitting).

REFERENCE: grainy_butt_1_by_lockstock.jpg
Don't get caught up on details, a psuedo-gesture drawing will work. The main thing is, try to eyeball the proportions right. Once you're 'done' with the whole thing, check your proportions and either jot down your errors in writing or try to fix them.
Generally, human proportions are measured with comparative measuring of the head, see here for a shitty example of how to measure with heads (Loomis's ideal woman was really fucked up and had weird scrawny hips, I guess!).

2)Draw an action or contorted pose

by Jakten - REFERENCE: a01303.jpg
Start with a line of action, build the figure up from there. Make sure you don't automatically straighten things out; straightening poses and objects out is a subconscious process that really screws stuff up in art, and it's rather difficult to break out of Sad. Like with 1, jot down issues with your drawing.

3)Draw HANDS OR FEET, the bane of my existence

by Cow - REFERENCE: ClassicalHand02.jpg
Urgh. Draw 2 hands or 2 feet. This is where the pain really begins. Angry

FOR HONORABLE WARRIORS, WHO LIKE RECEIVING GOLD STARS.:
-Draw atleast 3 people in neutral stances. Both genders must be represented.
-Draw atleast 2 action pose peoples.
-Draw 4 pairs of hands or feet. Both hands and feet must be represented.

Q&A:
Can I use my own reference?
Of course! For Challenge 1, it has to have the whole body from head to toe visible, though. Also, try to avoid using airbrushed porn women (or men). The more average, the better. LASTLY, POST YOUR REFERENCE.

Why are the folders divided in to SFW and NSFW stuff?
I dunno, maybe someone's sensibilities would get offended otherwise? Umm.. well... Nudey art is being posted in here anyway...

Why no fat people?
Umm... I didn't notice this until after uploading the zip.

Why does that one lady have a moustache?
I think that's just a jpg artifact... I hope it is.

What's the due date? Next Monday?

Man, I haven't done any serious drawing in ages. This'll be good practice. Heck, I could try using myself as a photo reference!  Roll Eyes
