@Derakon: Next monday, yeah Smiley
Using yourself as a photo reference would be totally okay Durr...? I imagine you mean for the hands/feet one, though? Not the naked one?

@Gainsworthy: oops. Fixed 2 seconds from now.
Also, all the references are in the zip, and a lot more to go with 'em. Download it!

Why is work time for working and not for doing this? Goddamnit! D:

Also why is my power cord for my laptop not working so I can't scan the results on my own computer! Argh argh.

:D

This is, anyways, exactly what I needed to get started on a bit. So I will. HEHEH

Quick question before i get stuck in. Do all the drawing have to be pencil/traditional art materials? I only ask as i am currently quite addicted to Colors on the DS and thought it might be fun to mix in a few drawings done on that as well. I find being able to watch back the progress can be a handy learning experience. I think i'll start with pencil though for the first week but would be neat to know for the future.

edit: Also if anyone is stuck looking for references here's a few links that look pretty dandy.

http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/gallery/   - loads of good ref photos organised into handy galleries.
http://characterdesigns.com/    - best site i ever saw for references. Quite a lot of very specific costumes, but a massive amount of photos on there.
and shitloads of links in this thread: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=130467

No. Use any medium. Well, not literature, and pixel art is probably a bad idea.

links
Ha! I always remember mjranum's avatar on deviantart but can never find his actual gallery. Thanks! :D
Other two links are also excellent.

Yay! Grin
Not horrible at all.
You did a excellent job finding your errors <3 Something to keep in mind with hands is that, AFAICT, each segment of a finger is equal to or smaller than the previous segment. There might be exceptions in sausage-handed people. Who, Me?
You pointed out the angle of the thumb... It's also a sizing issue? The joint of the thumb should extend a little further to the left, and the back of the thumb should be angled a little closer to vertical line. I think the thumb is what's making the back of the hand look too small, also Smiley.
Also, look for things that line up on vertical or horizontal lines. Where the gap between the index and middle finger ends matches up almost exactly with the middle of the ring finger's knuckle.
Last, if you can simplify your shading, even reduce it to hatching as opposed to cross-hatching, things will look a lot cleaner.

You my favorite compatriot now, Ashkin Durr...? maybe I should give you bacon for being the first to submit something.

P.S. Cite your references, 'ClassicalHand03'

Hokay, "finished" the first one. I don't know exactly how long I spent on it, but more than the half hour you specified. Then again I'm way out of practice (and even when I was in practice, I never got all that good).

Link to drawing (reference: Challenge1/NSFW/Female/001.JPG)

This was drawn with an Intuous tablet and Photoshop. I do have paper and pencils and so on, and even a scanner...somewhere...that might still work...but I want to get used to using the tablet.

That's okay. Smiley
Overall head to body ratio is quite good (Closer than mine!) The head also isn't too narrow? It's slightly offset to the right, but looks the right width. Hrm...
It looks like you didn't undo any lines, which is a good habit, but your stroke economy's suffered as a result! You're gonna have to either resist the urge to redraw the same line several times, or start erasing, to get a clean drawing. Sad
Beyond that, breasts are too low, and the shoulders... Mm, in skinny people, with visible collar bones, the arm forms a 90 degree angle with the collar bone, and the curve up in to the neck starts a little inward from there. Bleh, having trouble explaining that; if you want I can create a diagram.
You did a really good on the legs, especially from the knees to the feet.  Gentleman

Implemented some honor roll goodies. Ashkin gets a red gem thing for submitting first thing (won't be given out in later weeks). Cow gets one for first full completion of the week. Smiley

O Sheldie! Kiss I'm happy you signed up without me yelling at you.
Overall it's very good; excellent quality. However, things are consistently lanky! Especially noticeable on the head (though to be fair, without comparing to the reference she just looks like a model), where it's both squashed in -><- a little and stretched vertically. Neck is way too thin, right side is aligned with the base of the ear.
All limbs are too thin, too. Arms, (our) right leg, and lower portion of the left leg.
You straightened out the angle on the right hip Sad should jut right more.
Proportions are correct between related things (i.e. mouth, nose, eyes, forehead, all match eachother), though. And the rendering is very good; you're swell when it comes to skin tones Kiss!

Quote
Oh sure, the only non-rotated reference in the pack Tongue
Head is leaning more, left leg is longer (Did you get close to the canvas edge?), right leg goes down further and is bent inward a tiny bit more. Otherwise spot on, dear Shocked:handthumbsupR:

Quote
Also very very good. You shortened the thumbs on both hands, and the pinky on the top one turns more gradually.
Alas, you have bested me all around.

I think I might be going overboard on these CC posts. Who, Me? Fuck it, one of you guys can do a post for the next person to submit.

Maybe I was just imagining things. My initial head circle was certainly way too big (or rather, after drawing it, I drew the torso too small and then drew a new head circle). I never know where to start with these things...it's not like a line of action is going to be much help with a neutral pose!

Yep! Definite problem for me. I draw a line wrong, and then correct it, and to make certain I remember the corrected one instead of the wrong one, I draw the corrected one darker, and then that causes problems down the road.

(And I did erase...but don't tell anyone! Mostly it was just for guide lines for the legs that turned out way wrong)

I can't really look at the reference drawing right now since I'm at work, but I'll take a look at this when I get home. No need to create a diagram; I'm sure I can figure it out.

Aww, thanks! While drawing this I realized that my usual drawings of peoples' lower bodies are posed unnaturally -- I usually draw with the outer edge of the legs going straight down or even away from the center line, and then the inner edge tapering towards the knees/ankles. But people don't usually stand like they're doing half-splits! Heels together, or close together, is much more common.

Thanks for the detailed C&C! I'll try to get another drawing done tonight.

@Jad: Yer a saint, deary.

@Bood_war && Derakon: Yes, more drawings!!

Okay yolks, a couple questions.
First off, subject matter for next week. Would you guys prefer character design or exaggerating/stylizing anatomy? or BOTHF?
And, on bacon, would ya'll prefer a wide array of collectible incentives, or just the three I put up? (one for doing the week's thing before everyone else, one for doing the 'harder' version of the week's challenge, and one for giving good criticism)

I want to do character design!
Also, the more incentives the better.
