DUDES

I am wrapping up this little online multiplayer game I made with Flashpunk and Player.IO.

You try to move to the center and steal the crown without getting zapped. The KING can only zap you when you're moving, though; you're safe if you're stationary. To move, MASH YOUR LETTER KEYS.

As the KING, you can only see where you're pointing with your mouse. Click to zap, but if you shoot at someone who's not moving you'll have to wait a second before firing again.

I'm doing a round of testing tonight and I want you guys in on it. Here's the link:

http://php.scripts.psu.edu/tms5162/games/tca.php

The room we're in right now is called THE TERRORDOME.

[EDIT] All done now! Check back later if you want to try it out but didn't get a chance.

[EDIT AGAIN] Game on. Room: BRO CITY

<3 the music.

I liked the gameplay design, but I didn't like the controls. I'm not really big on button mashing, and having to switch from that to a mouse was disorienting - moreso since I use laptop touchpad that's located beneath the spacebar, so I kept having to switch my mouse on and off. Played with Gold Cray and Crowleaf, I think it could be a lot of fun with a lot more people.

Nice job!

Okay, you could probably tell by how much I was playing this game, but I love this game.

Excellent multiplayer game.  It's one of the few online multiplayer games I've played that feels like a party game you're playing with people in your own house.  The game is well designed to promote rivalries, friendly smack-talk, and competition.  I also love the controls, as it means that speed is directly related to your own skill at button mashing as fast as you can.  Being able to work harder to go faster really makes this game great.  Also, love the style, goes well with the feeling of the game.

I'd only make a couple of improvements:
 - There's currently a counter for best added up time, but there should also be one for longest consecutive time as king.
 - Sometimes the text is a bit hard to read.  Giving the text an outline should solve that.

Seriously awesome game.   Kiss

I love it. It's like playing King of the Hill, really, only instead of a hill, you have a swirling vortex, and instead of pushing people, you have lasers, it's night time, and you also wield a flashlight. I can't say no to lasers, and the music really matches up well with this.

I also love how each individual person has their own expression, as well. Creative way to differentiate between people.

I would love to see a whole series of online games like this with a similar style. Maybe you would play through them rapid-fire, like wario ware.
But just this one is still awesome Grin

Ok, testing is done for the evening. Thanks to everyone who played, and for the comments here. There is still some polishing that needs to be done but most people seemed to enjoy themselves.

I'll post here again if/when I run another round.

Great, I needed an excuse to buy a new keyboard anyway.  Cheesy

This is gallons of fun. I think most of the enjoyment is derived from the inherent hilarity of the act of hammering on your keys like an idiot. I was also suprised by the amount of strategic depth considering how primitve the rules are.

Just played this for 10 minutes or so and it seemed utterly impossible to get to the crown if the king is even the least bit attentive. Nobody managed, anyway. Maybe it's my crappy internet connection though, there seemed to be a lot of lag between ceasing to mash and my character actually stopping, which made it very easy for the king to zap me. Also, only three of the four of us attackers were actually playing.

I also thought it might be fun to have some leeway to move to the left/right instead of just straight at the crown, but then again it would hamper the brilliantly primitive control scheme.

Really like the concept, anyway, not sure why it didn't seem to work that well for me as for other people here.

Probably the lack of people. Things are stacked in the king's favor with so few. The game gets exponentially more fun once you get >6 attackers.

It could be made so that mashing the right side of the keyboard would move you rightish, mashing the left side would move you leftish, and their combined vector would move you straight inward.
